Little by little California plants the seeds for other states to follow.
If you haven't noticed New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland ect seem to follow each other. One by one.

Fact, the bad guys don't follow gun laws. It just isn't working.

Many years ago, New York City did the same.
People got in their car and went to long Island and picked up anything they wanted. ( no handguns)
NYC & NYS -always needed a Pistol Permit. Difficult to get but not impossible.
( I had one for over 20 years.)
Ammo & Rifles- no checks of any kind. What happened in the long term--- NYC had more unregistered rifles then anyplace in U.S. for that time,
Early 1980s. The whole thing back fired on them (NYC). The people felt, as long as they were out there buying ammo, why not pick up a few rifles and shotgun at the same time.......... and they did. Things like this happen more times then we know...... they just don't make them public because of the embarrassment.

I like the idea of joining the NRA in mass. Maybe for a limited time....and from time to time.....Life memberships for $75.00 - $100.00.

The NRA would triple its membership almost overnight.

The city of Los Angeles made possession of magazines with a capacity of more than ten rounds illegal a year or two ago and required owners of same to surrender them at their local police station.

Last article I saw, not a single one had been turned in. They had even promised not to charge people who brought them in after the deadline and still, no bites.

California required registration of named "assault rifles" almost 30 years ago and it is estimated that compliance ran about 3%.

Notice also that these new laws specifically exempt legislators from having to follow them. I guess they figure that their lives are worth more than their citizens' lives.

It's a fact that the anti-2A cancer seems to spread from west to east, skipping large stretches of fly-over country. We already have it pretty bad here in moonbat Massachusetts... but that doesn't mean the anti-2A folks won't try to make it even worse for us. :(

I'll keep this brief. Quoting briefly from an AP story:

"Gov. Jerry Brown signed six stringent gun-control measures Friday that will require people to turn in high-capacity magazines "

You may read the rest of it here.

I am guessing the antis will figure out a way around that if they haven't already done so. Following the lead of NY and CT, I expect to see the government give gun owners four choices:

1) Move them out of state,
2) Sell them out of state,
3) Render them unusable, or
4) Turn them in.

See how they do that? They aren't taking them without compensation. They are giving you choices... and if you happen to choose to turn them in, that's on you.

As California Goes, So Goes the Country?

So, are we at a tipping point for state and national grassroots action, separate from any NRA effort?
With the media on the side of liberal politicians and thier policies, and only negative coverage of the NRA and gun owners, any thoughts on how we can stabilize this growing bad press and how we can gain some ground?

Other states may be only one election cycle away from going Red to Blue.

Fordson...you and several others are right on the mark!

This is like a bad dream out here. The liberal entrenched political system not only in California but in the rest of the U.S. is making their way to "your" State, with the same toxic drink that's been served out here. For those that think it's far away or it will never happen...think again. Look at your own State. See how it's changed. Get ready for the Federal Government to remove what freedoms your State hasn't removed thus far.

This State is full of liberal supporters of ridiculous laws, along with liberal Demo's and Repub's that think law abiding gun owners are responsible for these mass shootings.

The rest of the country is falling for the same illogical thinking. This "bad dream" is just a couple of moments away form all those States that think they're safe.

Look at what's coming this November...the next Supreme Court Justice, the next Congress in two years and new State government's coming in.

The liberal left doesn't need a few more mass shootings...they are already on track and everyone will be drinking the "cool aide." in the days to come. Even those whom you thought were solid defenders of the 2nd Amendment, they're beginning to cave in to the political and social pressure.
This Country is damaged (not just California) and we'll never see the freedoms we've enjoyed return again without some major surgery, if at all.
It has always been easy for the rest of the country to bash California, and to dismiss its self-conscious Left Coast exceptionalism as just that. Sorry to say...here it comes... to the rest of what is remaining.

We are under attack, from within and without!

As California Goes, So Goes the Country? Not so much a question but a real threat in my opinion.

We are all under attack, and no State is safe from "Califoritise" - that dreaded disease of unchecked Liberalism. I don't think I'm alone when I say that we as gun owners feel under siege from State and Federal governments for doing nothing other then following our Consitution.

The NRA can only do so much. We can become members and we can contribute. We can write our State and National reps to express our concerns and that may or may not have any effect. At my National level of rep, I have one Dem Senitor, one Rep Senitor (a failed Presidential Candidate) and one Dem representive who is far to the left. It's frustrating to get your point across to her.

More needs doing but I'm not sure what that is.

Illinois is not the anti-gun state that it used to be. Since 2014 we have had legal concealed carry, and outside of Chicago itself there are not that many restrictions on ownership or where a concealed carry gun may be taken. However, all of this happened because of a Federal court ruling which was based upon the Heller decision. Should the Supreme Court reverse itself, which is a real possibility in the next few years, then district Federal judges will no longer put up roadblocks to state's efforts to limit gun rights. With Chicago/Cook County dominating the state of Illinois, I have little doubt that we would quickly revert to being an anti-gun, anti-concealed carry state again.

Question, then...

get ready these laws are coming to a state near you

I'm in Texas, a state that is rather quickly going from purple to blue. Should I invest in some 10-round magazines just so I'll be compliant or is this giving in?

I'm not quite ready to declare the sky is falling.

Reality is the overwhelming majority of the country has been on a decidedly pro-gun trajectory. Just because California took a big step backwards isn't a barometer of anything. The ninth state to go Constitutional carry just went into effect with reported legislative efforts for Constitutional carry underway in nearly two dozen more states. Hardly a sign of End of Times for gun freedoms across America.

dont get too comfortable or too over confident there in Georgia, it may be coming your way sooner than you think
None of us should dismiss this as confined to CA. Given half a chance, this will be tried in any state. I can easily see it at the federal level as well.
Couldn't agree more. It is easy to dismiss this as California problem, but I can guarantee you that every time laws like this get passed anywhere, anti-gun legislators and others around the country look at them like a junkie looks at a freshly cooked spoon of china white.

Some of us feel good because we may live in states with better or even very good gun laws, but this is a very dangerous election year and we may be about to face a less favorable Supreme Court than we have had in years.

California is a lost cause I guess, but we need to learn from it and remain vigilant.
