I’m about to start hand loading 300 Blackout for a 9” pistol. Purpose: home defense. I’ve looked at multiple load manuals, researched online, etc. There’s so much information it’s hard to sift through it all.

Today I called Barnes Bullets because they have three different 110 grain .308 caliber bullets and I didn’t know which one to choose. The tech told me: X is the right bullet for that cartridge and application. H-110 powder. 18.5-19.0 grains for best accuracy. CCI #41 primers. Gas gun? Taper crimp because that neck is so short. DONE

I’ve typed it here before - when in doubt (and you always should be in doubt when starting to load a new cartridge) call the bullet manufacturer. They will help you. So will the powder distributor, either with online data or on the phone.

I had a similar experience also.
Sierra used to offer single shot pistol bullets when IMSA was popular.
Called them to find out the recommended velocity range for them.
Was a 30 caliber 135 gr bullet and they said keep it under 1500 fps.
Wanted to use it as a lighter recoiling load for my super light short barreled 30/06.
They even gave me a starting load .
Long story short I sent them a copy of the chronograph print out with 1550 fps on it.
The people that make a product have usually done a whole lot of real world testing as to what works.
