Gentlemen,
I have the Remington 700 varmint in .308 Win. it is a fine shooter, groups well, and has an excellent trigger. I also have a Winchester M 70 Heavy Varmint in a .308 Win it is also a fine shooter, I've played with the trigger and it is almost as good as the trigger on the Remington. They are both excellent shooters. My preference is to the Model 70s, I have four of the heavy varmint rifles, 2 in .223, a .220 Swift and the .308.
Back to the subject at hand. The Rem.700 has a Nikon Monarch 4.5x14 or something like that on it. Unfortunately my woek situation takes me away from home and haven't had a chance to shoot anything for about six or seven months. I am undergoing severe withdrawl from the smell of burning gun powder. Wnen I return home, I will install a decent synthetic stock on it and some better glass. As far as I am concerned the Remington is a fine rifle, simple to work on. The M 70s are a little more complex because of the flat bottomed receiver and costly to work on
