Hi:
With the snow and rain, plus being sick I have been viewing old western movies on cable TV and dvds.
I have observed in the old westerns and TV that the Cavalry Draw or Reverse Draw (sixshooter wore on the right side, butt forward) was used.
What were the pros on this style draw?

"you could draw with your left hand if your sword was in your right.... "

What the High Shuriff said.

The saber was the primary weapon of the cavalryman. The handgun was a secondary weapon until the War of Northern Aggression, when tactics changed. However, the leather gear didn't change until about WW I.
