Came back to the Shield

Been carrying the shield for about a week. It has totally replaced the Ruger LC9 for my lighter carry gun. LC9 is great, and shoots well, but just doesn't haver the same "feel" as the Shield. The Shield just "feels" like enough gun if I need it, where the LC9 never quite felt that way. It was more about just making do with something compact. :D

The Shield with the +2 on the flat base 7 round mag gives my 10 rounds of Hornady Critical Duty 125 grain +P onboard. My 6906 is still my "serious" carry weapon, for when I come down out of the mountains into the cities.

Love my gen. 1 Shield .40, I'd probably be more accurate just throwing the dang thing at whatever, but it does go bang every time. :)

I have previously owned 3 version 1 Shields over the years, and a 2.0 Shield Performance Center 4".

However, after the Shield Plus came out, I knew the thinner Shields would just sit in the safe. So, I sold them.

That little extra width on the Shield Plus solves my issue of the original Shield being TOO thin.

I have 3 Shield Plus models now :) - They really do shoot like larger guns....

I thought about the 43x a few times too. I have had a 1st gen Shield since they came out. Did a few little custom improvements to it and It is my go to for EDC. When the 4" barrel Shield + performance series was released I had to get one... Never did bit on a 43x.

I rented a 43X once. DAMN snappy.

I did once have a Glock 48. I liked it... But, something about the combo of the thinner grip AND the Glock grip angle... I kept getting wrist pain, so I had to sell it. The Glock 19 - fine. No pain.

The Shield and Shield Plus - fine... No pain...

I never had a reason to 'Come Back To' the Shield, since nothing that ha s come out since the Gen1 Shield has excited me enough to trade it off.

You see, BEFORE the Shield (in 2012) the only 9mm Subcompacts the size of the Shield ('Micro' was not yet a category) were the G26 (a bit larger), the KT P-11 (about the size of the G26) and the PF-9 (front pocket carriable, but Super Snappy). And... The P-11 & PF-9 were both internal hammer fired DAO, not Striker Fire.

When the Shield came out, I almost didn't even try it, because (back then) the M&P triggers were SO bad, that users would automatically order an Apex kit BEFORE buying the M&P.
The Shield's trigger was head & shoulder above the 'usual' M&P trigger. After renting one, I immediately bought one.

Since the Gen1, I've tried the original LC9 (internal hammer DAO copy of the Shield), LC9-S ('S' for Striker Fire) and others, but none shot as smoothly and malfunction-free as the Shield. Most were almost as Snappy as the PF-9.

The G43 is nice, but just a bit snappier, the 43x just seems stupid to add a longer grip to a Micro. I do have a G48 (basically a Single-Stack G19), but it's not as nice to shoot as my Shield, or my G19.

Even after trying the Gen2 Shield and Shield Plus, they are nice, but not Nice Enough to trade my Gen1 (for basically, peanuts), nor Nice Enough to Add one. I don't own multiple 'copies' of the same handgun, or 'Safe Queens'. If something doesn't get shot more than once a Year, I find it a new home.

So, as mentioned, I never needed to Come Back, as I Never Left. :)

Well, my 3913 seemed pretty close enough for years...

Then the SCCY DVG-1 came by at $150 with 10+ 1 and I was led astray!

Cheers!

Shields are great guns. I’ve owned all the 3.1” versions. My edc is the 2.0 with integrated laser with idot pros on it with a barsony IWB holster. Great comfy setup. Also have the Plus model. Can’t go wrong with any of em. I just got a 43x for a great deal I couldn’t refuse. Honestly don’t see myself carrying it much. Probably will sell it haha

I rented a 43X a couple of years ago. To me, it kicks way more than a Shield or Shield Plus.
