Not sure if this is an apropos post but it IS related to ammo.

I have a Camp Perry 50-round wood ammo box (pics below) that I acquired a numnber of years ago. I have never seen anything like it before or since.

Does anyone have an idea of age, history, etc.?

Many thanks in advance for any assistance you might provide,

Nice box, I've seen similar style boxes for carrying a shooters target ammo at the range but I've never seen this one before. From the name on it and the slogan I would guess it was sold by one of the vendors who supplied the match shooters at Camp Perry. Not sure of the age though, if I find anything more definite will let you know.

Google P.J. O'hare, they used to put out a catalog of shooting supplies a long time ago.

I suspect that the initials carved into the bottom of the box belong to William Palmeiter who was heavily involved in match shooting with Anschutz and Winchester target rifles. I shot in team matches against his children(Acorn Rifle Team) in the 1970's in the Northern Va region. I hope I spelled his name correctly. Kyle

Attached below are several shots of a similar .22 ammo box that I have in my collection. As you can see, while it is from the same firm as yours, the promotional information on its lid is laid out differently. Mine also lacks the initials carved into the bottom. Some people would see that as a plus as it is more "original" but on something as personal as this (you're talking about something that is used by someone as part of the competition itself), I think yours might be the more "interesting" of the two.

The really neat thing here, however, is the difference in the art work for the supplier's information as it could indicate that there were at least two runs of these boxes.

"Jellybean" is correct about P.J. O'Hare being a catalog house and not only are there original copies of their publications around but there are reproductions available these days too.

Additionally, if you search the internet, you'll probably find a couple of (apparently now expired) ads or auctions for boxes like these on line. Mine came out of a show in Idaho or Oregon over a decade ago.

Note that I have also seen an identical Camp Perry-marked box without any reference to O'Hare and a Bridgeport Connecticut address. And a while back on this site, there was a thread with references to an NRA-marked one (http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/103411-can-anyone-tell-me-more-about-knick-knack.html) and another thread (http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/103506-22-cal-ammo-wooded-holders.html) that discusses several sizes and types including an O'Hare marked one.

Hope you find this interesting.

In any event, anything marked Camp Perry is a cool thing! After all, Camp Perry is hallowed ground...

Those type of wooden ammo boxes were popular items ca. 50 years ago. Some held 50 cartridges while others others held a full box of 22's in addition to the 50 holes.

Dave... that is WAY cool, I found it very intersting- thank you for sharing!! Sorry for the delay in my response but I have not been on the Forum for a few weeks. Thanks again!
