Can a scandium framed 1911 be bobtailed?

I have a Dan Wesson CBOB I like a lot, but it is a bit too heavy to carry all day. If I buy a scandium framed Commander length S&W 1911 can the frame be bobtailed? If so, can the performance center do this or would I need to find a 3rd party gunsmith to do the work?

Yup, and I think someone other than the PC will have to do it, but you could call.

The refinishing is the only tricky part.

You can search these forums for folks that have bobtailed a couple of scandiums.

Is your desire for considering a bob-tail job connected to concealment issues, or to another cause? The only reason I ask, is that I've found over time the toughest part of a 1911' to conceal, is the lower grip area. And for me, the trouble ALWAYS arose due to a flat (and checkered) main spring housing. As well as a checkered outboard grip panel. That's why anymore, all of them I carry have an arched, grooved main spring housing, and a smooth outboard grip panel. No 90 degree surfaces with velcro like checkering on them, make JMB's gun much more carry friendly!
