I was looking at google images of Smith and Wesson 27-2 and this pic came up. It looks to be a Smith and Wesson, is it a custom or factory gun. I love the barrel.
Any one know what it is, anyone own one who can post pics.
Thanks guys.

Thank you gents,
What's the story with those guns? Are the any different then Smith and Wesson? Better, the same, less then..in quality

I own a model 14-2 Dan Wesson, .357, and a .44 magnum, heavy barrel with the ventilated rib. Dan Wesson was the grandson or great grandson of one of the founders of Smith & Wesson. The guns I have are the ones made in Monson, Mass. They are very high quality. The cylinders rotate clockwise, like colt double actions. They were unique because you could change the barrel and shroud out, and you could have anything from 2.5" to 12" or even 15". On my .357 the cylinder came chamfered or recessed from the factory. Not so with .44Mag. These guns are from 1981 and 1985.

They ran into financial difficulties, and went bankrupt. After that I saw Dan Wesson guns were being made in Ilion, New York. I don't know if Dan Wesson was part of that group or not. I looked at a .357 made at this locale, and it didn't have the ability to change barrels and shrouds.

Finally CZ bought the company. They make one nice .357 model, but I believe the rest of their lineup are high end semi autos.

My well worn DW. I've had it for about 30 years, and it's had 1000's of hot hand loads run through it.

Thanks for the comments guy's..I think long barreled revolvers are really cool and a lot of fun to shoot..

Ah yes, the 1st cousin of a S&W, DW's are fine firearms, often called the 5th generation revolver. D.B Wesson and Karl Lewis ( who designed guns for Colt) developed the DW's in the 70's. Barrels from 2 1/2" out to 15".
Built in .22LR,.22 mag,.32,.38,.357,.357 max mag,.41 mag, .44 mag.,.445 super mag .45 LC , and a few other exotic calibers.
They owned the Metal Silhouette competitions along with the T.C. Contenders for years.
Super strong and super accurate with the best out of the box triggers in the class. Have run many max load reloads in mine for years with no problems.
There is a Dan Wesson forum/web site if you would like more details. Parts are available from EWK Arms and CZ.

I have both .357's and a .44 mag with a 10" barrel that will do 3" groups all day long at 100 yards of a rest. had a 15" barred .357 that I sold like an idiot years ago, needed the cash :( taken several deer with the .44 mag never had one run more than 10 yards.

Quality control can be a bit spotty depending on where the guns were made. for a while they were under appreciated and priced but that has largely passed. Check GB for a look at current values.

You can do Google search for more info.
