Can i convert A 617 to 22 mag ?

I am kicking around sending one of my 617's to Smith and Wesson and having them make a mag cylinder for i or just buy a 648
or can this even be done. Reason of thinking this way is. If i was to buy a 648 i would want a red dot on it which both my 617's already have so cost reduction for the red dot and mount. Not a big issue but more room in the safe.
what does the forum think on this subject?
any guess's on cost of the conversion?

I have a S&W Model 18, 4 inch 22 LR. I found a brand new Model 48, 22 magnum cylinder and extractor. Will the cylinder work on my Model 18 since they are both K-frames. Thanks.

What is the process to convert a k frame 22 lr cylinder to fire 22 magnum rimfire? Is it just reaming the cylinder bores or does it involve extractor work also?
