That number does not seem correct for a Model 15 manufactured in the 1980s

Is that the number that is on the butt of the revolver?

A gun of this era likely had a three letter/four digit serial number on the flat bottom of the grip frame. If it reads AZS 378x with the x being another number we can help you with its age.

A revolver with the AZF serial number prefix was most likely manufactured in 1988

A Historical letter would yield when the revolver shipped, which of course is different than when it was manufactured. The Historical letter would also tell you who it's shipped to

The models 15-5 through 7 are interesting, basically model 14s in 4, 6 and 8 3/8" (wide rib, heavy) barrel lengths after the latter had been discontinued. I believe the -7s were only made in 4".
