So there I was, minding my own business when I get a phone call from a fellow co-worker. He asks,"You like Smith revolvers don't you?" I guess word gets around. I replied "Well yes I do. Whatcha got?" He tells me he bought a blued 5" 27-2 a few months ago and he'd been looking at a bolt action .308. Said he didn't really know why he bought the revolver and didn't care for blued guns either. He said he'd turn it loose for six Bens if I was interested. That'd pay for the rifle. I got that funny tingle that runs up your spine and arranged to meet him to look at the gun in person.
Turned out the gun was in perfect shape. Not one blemish. Not even the usual holster wear. Included the original cardboard box held together with scotch tape but no presentation case. :( The grips were in great shape too but not numbered to the gun. I guess you can't have everything.
The rest is history. I grabbed my wallet before he changed his mind, wasn't even going to try to wheel & deal. I felt I got more than a fair price.
Can I join the club now??

Thanks for looking, The TinKnocker

Nice! And a decent buy.

Not to "one-up" you, but I bought this one a few months back. Paid $450 out the door at a local gun shop (I've been friends with the owner for 30 years). Magna stocks number to the gun!

Can I get in the 27 club. I have 3 27' 2 8 3/8 and a 5 inch, one new in the box and a shooter I picked up last week and had to put stocks and a rear sight on it. and my 5 inch was bought from a young guy here in town looking to up grade to a glock. its nickel and has been sent to smith for a replate some time in the 70'. let me know what you think. the first is my in box 27, second is the one I had to build and last is the 5 inch nickel.

Those are all beauties!

:)
Actually, I really meant "good buy." I think that very nice 5" revolver is easily worth $600. Personally, I think the 5" barrel is ideal for the Model 27.

Sounds like you got his price at $450. Very nice.
Thanks. He had a Kit Gun that I wanted to buy for my wife. He knows I collect S&W and he had this one under the counter, in its original box. He cut me a deal on the Kit Gun and threw the 27-2 in for the additional $450. Made my day. Deb then got the Kit Gun for Christmas last year.

Not big on the 8 3/8" myself, but I know that others like them.
That nickel plated 27 5" is stunningly beautiful. I have mostly blue revolvers (by choice) but yours is extremely good looking and I'd pick one like that up in a heartbeat, given the opportunity.

"Upgrade?" If you say so . . . :D

Congrats on the good fortune and fine model 27-2. It'll be a nice gun to take to the range and not sweat about a blemish here or there. You could shoot it regularly and in five years probably get as much or more for it, should you decide to sell. Enjoy!

Can you join the 27-2 club? Well, I dunno... just how COOL are you? Oh, I guess you answered that by posting the absolutely gorgeous 27 you just acquired! Beautiful! You are a member in very good standing with all accompanying benefits and privileges. My latest 27 (about 2 years ago) was just like yours, condition-wise, but a 6" Bbl. I paid $700 and thought I got a great deal. You got a fantastic deal on one of the greatest guns ever made. Congratulations!

75Vette: I hate to be the wet blanket in the crowd but you got stuck with one of the dreaded "S" prefix model 27's wearing the distinctive diamond center grips. Good guy that I am, will help you out of your predicament by giving you $600 for it. Please send me your address to send the money.

Good show!

Very nice pick up my 27-2 is not as nice but a joy to shoot. Thanks for showing us, I think you got it for a wonderful price.
