Can I put a 22 WMR cylinder in a model 53?

The M53 Jet has the same length cylinder as a M19 Combat Magnum, a K22 cylinder is too short. BUT some M53s came with long .22 LR cylinders instead of the inserts.

I never heard of a .22 WMR cylinder for the M53, and think it would be a specialty item or a LR cylinder rechambered.

S&W didn't offer a .22 WMR cylinder for the model 53. As Jim mentioned, you could have a LR cylinder rechambered to .22 WMR, but I sure wouldn't advise it. I've seen several 53 .22 LR cylinders sell on ebay for over $800. You're better off just buying a Model 17 or a Model 48.

I sold this 53 to a friend a few years ago.

I've only seen one three cylinder Model 53 and that was at least 20 years ago. Someone apparently had an extra .22 Rimfire cylinder rechambered to .22 Magnum...

cyl length

The nominal length of the mod 53 cylinder is 1.67", the length for the mod 48 is 1.62", and the length for the mod 17 is 1.62". The only 22 cylinder that can be used is one made for the mod 53!

Yes, I have seen .22 MRF cylinders for the model 53 but presume they were all modified from .22 LR as noted above.
