Can I see your work benches?

I’ve got 26’ of bench. The first 8’ is of 2x construction 3/4”ply top covered with 1/8” hard Masonite. Then 12’ of heavy duty bench made of 5” thick white oak, 32” wide / 2 16” planks & 6 4x4 legs. Loading stuff on left end and big vise on right end. Left 4’ void to allow work space for vice. Finnish off with 6’ of kitchen counter with 3/4” plywood top. Usually everything is neat and have white peg board for 1st 20’ and cabinets over last 6’. But doing some remodeling and everything out of place. Also have “island” with gun cradle so you can work from any side. It also has small precision adjustment vice with Pyrex guides for filing small parts perfectly.

I built a pole barn over the last year and am still getting it organized. Would love to see examples of other set ups.

I’m particularly interested in storage and organizational ideas.

Here’s my bench pic taken today. It’s 16’ long with bin storage underneath. Always a work in progress for me.

like that tool rack, did you make it...?

In the 2 years since the thread started, we've retired and moved. I was able to swing a major workspace upgrade in the process, from a 20x20 urban garage to a 40x40 detached shop. Mostly settled in now, but I'm still making small changes as I find ways to improve my workflow on a given project.

The previous owner built a storage 'loft' and semi-enclosed space in the corner, which has become my reloading and gun-wrenching space.

I had posted these before, a few years ago. Originally I had a basement "closet", and barely enough room to hold two people at the same time. When I retired and we built our Condo I designed just what I wanted in the basement.

The first shot is my cleaning etc work area, the 2nd shot is my single stage (Texan 7 hole turret loader) where I do my load development and load the small batch of seldom used loads. The 3rd picture is my Dillon for volume loading, and my MEC 9000 for shotgun loading, and the 4th is the back of the shop showing the shelving for gun cases, and the area of my all concrete 4'x7' walk in vault. The room is 21' x 11' and even after 20 years still meets all my needs.

NO! You can't see it for all the junk on it. You could walk by it and not even know it's there. Just another pile of stuff the kids will have to clean up when I die. "Remember the hell you put your mother and I through?... How do you like me now? ;)"

Beautiful shop Kevin - it looks like it's just BEGGIN' for more tools! 😃 I WISH I had that much room. The last shop I had when I lived up North was much bigger than my current shop but I make do.
The current shot is 20x40’. It is larger than the house from which we moved!

I had some cabinets in my previous house that I saved. I put 4X4's under the base cabinets to raise the work surface. I put a 2X4 frame over the base cabinets and put 2 pieces of 3/4" MDF on top. I then used contact cement to put a formica sheet on top. I used a French Cleat to mount the top cabinets. Each upper was 24" wide.my 15X8 ft room turned out to be 95 inches from wall to wall. I took the book case apart and made it 1" smaller to get a perfect fit.

I put T-track in the top and I glued 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood together and mounted my reload press on that. This way I can clamp it to the top when I want to reload and put it on a shelf to free up the space for other stuff.

I made the bench/step stool from a plan I had. I made proportionally larger to fit my Sherrill Butt(Charlie has one too)

The bench is a little more cluttered today. My butt still fits on the bench.

Time to clean mine up again. We get by. The shop is 30'X60' with a twelve foot ceiling. This particular bench is twelve feet long, one of several like this in the shop. It also weighs about 500 lb. so it does not move around.IMG_0013.JPG

More reloading room/ mancave

Hey Fellers, those neat shops make me ashamed of mine. Every couple of years I clean mine up as you can see in one picture but most of the time it looks like the other picture...IMG_20190106_132325800.jpgIMG_20180717_115049001.jpg
