I know everybody hates them, but I'd like one on my M&P 9 fullsize. I've always liked that feature on my 3rd gens. Called S&W and they said they can't do it because it's in their file as not having one. Is there any way to install one, and if so what parts to order. Thanks

Anyone else getting Deja Vu about this topic?

To the OP, a casual search in the box will turn up a few threads which should answer your quiery.

Can you add a fifth wheel to a Corvette ? I'm sure you could but its "like teats on a boar hog " as my father would say . If you want a mag disconect but a gun designed for one .

Disconect

Ed only reason I like em is so I can chamber the gun have the mags seperate, slamp one in if some one breaks in and I'm ready to rock. This what I do with my house guns (4566tsw 457 stainles and 4506) The M&P is for USPCA, but I would still like a mag disconect

If you go on Brownells.com they sell replacement trigger block w a mag safey, you can swap one w the saftey into your gun very easily. Bc i did the exact opposite and removed the safty bc the guy at the lgs ordered the wrong gun for me

If this is done with guns left where other people have access to them, it is an accident waiting to happen, when someone puts an empty magazine into an "empty" gun and it fires.
A friend "killed" his washer with such an "unloaded" pistol and an empty magazine.

A magazine disconnect is not a substitute for properly storing an unloaded, unattended gun where it is not accessible to unauthorized people.

Let me guess....You have kids in the house. :)

And what pray tell IS the proper method for storing an unattended, unloaded gun where its not accessable?

A gun lockbox? How hilarious. A young kid with a brain and time can locate and open those easily enough. A burglar can do it faster, since they don't have to take the time to cover their tracks.

A gun safe? You solve the kid access problem, but now you can't get to them either. When Joe Felony breaks in he's not going to hang out in the living room while you run to the closet and punch in a combination.

A magazine disconnect is not a substitute for proper gun handling skills or training, but it serves as a passive feature which can be used to deactivate a handgun when its not in immediate need, while simultaneously allowing for a chambered state which only requires insertion of an easily controlled magazine to 'activate'.

For most of us non-Special Operations people, 94.98% of the time the gun isn't remotely likely to be used. A mag disconnect ensures that when Junior-or his girlfriend you don't know about- finds the piece the worst outcome is harsh words and a boot in the rear, instead of a loud bang followed by a dead body and police attention.

Amazing how people become bent out of shape regarding a feature which has saved lives. Its akin to someone despising airbags in a car.

Hmmm, lets see kids or others that you don't want handling the firearm, and putting in the safe is not an option for reasons stated above, but I am guessing you have not heard that there are small biometrics(fingerprint) safes available for keeping the firearm seure yet providing immediate access to your fiearm! Just sayin!

I think a mag disconnect is something lawyers invented to keep people from shooting themselves while cleaning a gun.

Yes , the OP got his question aswered .... You can put a fifth wheel on a Corvette . You can also learn proper gun storage , train all people in the household including children ( my 10 year old has better gun handleing skills than most at LGS) . And not buy into gun myth's . The Nannie state has told us gun's are killers and will harm you at the first chance so we must have as many steps between us the user and the "evil" gun .

Actually, they've been around almost since semi-automatic pistols. Browning put them on several early pocket pistols and the High-Power at a time when nannies weren't elected officials-or lawyers.

I've been issued weapons with the mag disconnect for over 20 years and find the objections to the device rather hysterical.

BTW, what the OP needs to add the magazine safety is the standard sear block. The factory part number is 277640000, Brownells SKU is 940-000-958WB and they're currently out of stock. Just change out the entire sear block.
