Use the top shelf of the dishwasher. Or hand wash with Woolite or like brand of soap.

Well, thanks to all for advice. I took one hat and used some spray and wash stuff on it. Washed it in the sink and rinsed it off. Took a small plastic garbage bag and stuffed it full of crumpled up paper. (actually a pretty good simulation of my head including contents) Stuffed the bag into the hat to shape it and hung it out on the back porch. We shall see.
Had I known you like caps I would have sent you all of mine.

I would modify that to say that WEARING a ball cap is un-American except for use in shooting sports that require wearing ear muffs that fit over the top of the head. In other situations, the proper headgear is a hat that has a full 360 degree brim. But, I should mention, my skin is super sun-sensitive.Washing a ball cap is un-American as is mentioned somewhere in the constitution.
