in canada we have silly law that prohibits the ownership of guns with 4" barrels. i have seen and fired a 686 in 4.2" ,specially made for canadian market, beautifully proportioned with nice balance . im on a waiting list for a 4.2" 629. i may not ever see this gun as the l.g.s. can only take delivery of what s$w sends them... they wont/cant accept a deposit because they dont know how many of the 12 they ordered they will actually receive.
my wish is that s$w would make all their 4" barrelled guns also in 4.2" OR have some sort of permanent .2" barrel extention as an option.
i really want that 4.2" 629 but i am a little afraid(not really, but kinda haha)... with 240 gr.full house rounds, my 6" 629 will draw blood if you dont hold tight enough.

Are you dealing with Grouse River by any chance? (They are great people by the way.)

I haven't seen a 4.2" in 629. I've seen in 686.

Badger has them: http://www.badgerarmssupply.com/index.php?page=smithwesson
And Reliable Gun & Tackle has them too although not sure if in stock.

Smith's website only shows 4", 5", 6" and 6.5". Why do you want a 4.2"? The 5" looks amazing. I've seen the 4.2" Ruger Redhawk and it's not balanced very well I find. Unless of course you're going up country and you want a 4.2" for portability?

If my budget allows I'll get the 629 in 5". When Smith already has 3 barrel sizes already, I'm just not sure they'd see that much demand for 4.2".

the only demand would be from the canadian market where the 4" barrelled models are (12.6) prohibited.
the 4.2 inch redhawk is an ugly piece of metal ...no thanks.
the up country thing is the consideration although i cant legally pack a handgun anywhere except the range, but no man knows what the future may bring.
the difference between the 4.2 and the 5" barrels is only .8" but it seems like more. if i cant get the 4.2 ill probably settle for the 5".... or take a hacksaw to my early 629 no dash...(jk)
thanks for the link ill check them out.

my 4.2" 629 should be here before the end of july,it is part of a large purchase by a canadian wholesaler my dealer expects to be able to fill all pre orders. hopefully smith $ wesson sees the canadian demand as worthy of their attention and more models will become available.

Wow, thats a pretty crazy law and sure knocks a lot of guns off the legal list.

im sure thats the idea. theyll go after the rest later, although the long gun registery has finally been scrapped.
i love my country but the government...ehhh, not so much.

sounds a lot like the peoples[ republik of california] ,where you may purchase a stainless gun in whatever cal, BUT the same pistol with a blackened slide may not be on the list?? Has nothing to so with "safety", nor gun control, it is there ability to "CONTROL" Most firearm laws anywhere are about control only! Enjoy the 629 4.2, my 4" loves 240 XTP. Be Safe...ehhh
