In one of my online subscriptions they posted the Canik SFx won honorary top hand gun award from " Industry Choice Awards. Son has a Canik, shot it last year and is accurate and pretty comfortable to shoot.
Anyone here own one? Opinions?

Have never handled one. Before I retired, I observed a large number being pawned. I associated that with folks getting one due to the price, then not satisfied. I have spoken with others and they were very satisfied with the sidearm.

I have a Canik TP9sf (base model, $299 at the time, nothing special) that I used for years in USPSA and IDPA and it was flawless, accurate and reliable.
I eventually replaced it with a Walther Q5 Match at a much higher price, expecting more, but the Canik performs at the same level.
My wife had been so impressed by the Canik, especially the excellent trigger, that she just got a Canik Elite SC.

They're excellent firearms in performance, fit/finish and value. I came across a used TP9 on sale and had to try it.

They're a little unconventional looking (prefer wood and steel) but a solid performer. A lot of variety in models and finish at a low price.

Tried a few handfuls of the various Turkish and Philippine manufacturers and never ran into a major problem.

I know a few folks who have them and really like them, especially in the upper tier models. The ones I have handled have had very nice triggers on them.

I have one with a 5" tube. It has a nice trigger and makes me look good on the range. Easy to shoot and clearly more accurate than me.

Canik L120 Lightweight

I have one Canik as above. The L120 is a CZ75 clone with an aluminum frame. This was an impulse buy because The price was right and I wanted a CZ75. No issues with it whatsoever. I do wish It was the S120, steel frame version, but the shop only had the L120. I suspect the price was so low as the shop bought them cheap because TriStar would no longer be carrying the Caniks and was closing them out.

I have been satisfied with this gun in every way. The Turks have a reputation of making excellent firearms. Sorry Mike, but your prejudice against foreign firearms is showing!

It doesn't appear any other importer has picked up the 120 series guns as all I find on-line is used and on auction sites!

I have a TP9SF Elite and 2 TP9SF's. One of the SF's has a LOT of rounds on it now, and the other two probably just under 1K would be my guess.

The 3 that I have... can't speak for them all... I trust as much as my G17 duty weapon. These 3 run, are as accurate as my Glocks and have been trouble free.

I have sworn off guns from Turkey, but if not I would not hesitate to buy another one if I needed it (but I don't).

I am not normally one to compromise on a weapon for cost, but I really have nothing bad to say about these other than the holster they come with is absolute garbage.

BT, don't swear off guns from Turkey yet, buy a Canik Rival first.:D From what I've been able to tell, every time Canik comes out with a new model, they have made several improvements. The trigger keeps getting better, which is amazing, since owners of all previous models brag on their triggers. Also, like BT said, the holster that had been coming with their guns had not been very good. But, like their triggers, Canik improved the holster considerably too. It is not a custom holster, but it came "free" with the gun. And as for that, Canik includes everything you need for your new gun in their very nice plastic hard case, including:

Case Contents

Pistol
Holster
Three backstraps
Two 18-round magazines
Aluminum magazine well
Two aluminum mag baseplates
Three mag release extensions
Four aluminum optics adapter plates
Toolkit
Extra fiber-optic pipes
Punch
Cleaning Rod
Cleaning Brush

I've got 2 Canicks, both bought used.
The first was a TP9SA that I bought from my son. I wasn't thrilled at first, but after I shot it, I was sold. It fits my hand, points great, excellent trigger and accurate.
A few months ago I bought a TP9sfx at a gun show. Came with all the extras, and man, is it fun to shoot.
I've not had any issues with either one.

great gun for the money and well built. I purchased one a couple of years ago and tried it out on requalification and shot 2000 rounds in two days and performed flawlessly. I have to say the Turks manufacture some great guns for the money. I do agree the holster that was furnished with the gun did not last after 1000 rounds of heavy duty.

I have had the opportunity to shoot some Caniks during the Adaptive Defensive Shooting Summit at the Sig Academy over the past few years. I was impressed by their "shootabilty". While they are nice, I really don't have a need for one. Currently, aside from 2700 matches, I shoot the occasional PPC match and the Glock matches.

Now that NJ has started to issue concealed carry permits to it's residents, I might consider one, since I don't want to risk "losing" an expensive handgun to an evidence locker in the event that I have to use a CCW.

I just picked up a Canik Rival and love it, so easy to shoot accurately. I have several Glocks, (2) Sig Legions a 226 SAO and a P320 X5 and I (very mediocre shot) shoot the Canik better than any pistol I own. The trigger is just over 4 pounds and great reset. I traded in a Glock 34 Gen 5 for the Canik and for me this was a great decision.
