I'm completely dissembling a Smith 4566. The pin that holds the ejector in place WILL NOT move. This isn't my first go around with a 3rd Gen. The pin usually knocks out from the bottom and you're good to go. This one is solid. I wonder if it's not rusted in place. Based on the looks of the gun overall, the ejector has to come out for cleaning/maintenance. Open to suggestions.

IIRC, the ejector on the S&W autos is a pivoting ejector, retained by a pin that runs crosswise through the frame. It also retains the hammer, firing pin safety lever and decocking lever. It's generally part of the side plate that also holds the sear pin.

Now if you're talking about the EXTRACTOR, located in the slide, your description is close. I've generally driven them out from the top. Try soaking the part in PB parts blaster for awhile or use a 50/50 mix of Dexron and acetone.

You are correct...extractor. I believe my frustration came out in the form of keystrokes. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll give them a try.
