I bought my first digital camera in Jan. 2003 (a 1.3 MP Olympus point and shoot that was on closeout at a local Wolf Camera store). In early 2008, I decided it was time to get a new digital camera. I spent a lot of time reading Popular Photography and other magazines as well as web pages like the photography blog and dpreview. I have read and re-read 1000s of camera tests and reviews.
I was leaning towards a DSLR like the Canon Rebel xsi (or the newer Rebel 500D) but after talking to a good friend, who reminded me that sometimes less is more, I ended up getting a Canon SD 880 IS Powershot because it best suits my needs. I don't shoot sports, live action, etc. A DSLR made no sense for my shooting needs.
After seeing these reviews, I ordered my camera from buydig:

As stated in the photographyblog test, "The Canon . . . PowerShot SD880 IS Digital ELPH is probably the best-designed IXUS to date, both in the aesthetic and the functional sense."
So, how did I do? From everything I've read, the Canon Powershot cameras are top-notch.
