I was called over to my close friend's house to meet his old friend 1 day. His wanted me to meet his old friend & co-worker. We talked about guns quite a while. We got got on the subject of .22 gallery guns. Said that I always wanted 1. We talked and talked.
I was called to that same neighbor's house today. We talked a while. His friend said he had something to show me. He pulled out a long gun in a sleeve. I took it out and looked at it. It was a beautiful Winchester 62A. Told him previously that I liked gallery guns, but finding the right 1 never happened. Told him it was beautiful! Went on about it. I handed it back to him. He said, no, it is yours! I know that you will take care of it. Of course I was floored! This is a man that I met once before. What a gift!
The rifle dates to 1951 by the serial#. Bob

Awesome!

We have a similar gun in my extended family... my grandmother carried it hunting with her father when she was a girl.

I owned a 62A as a young man, although not nearly as nice as yours. Then I made the rifle team at Eastern Kentucky U., fell in love with a 52D and an Anschutz, and realized my little slide-action couldn't compete with them in the accuracy realm. The little Winchester was accurate in its own right, sleek, and handy. I probably traded it away in pursuit of a bull-barrel bolt gun. So sad that youth is wasted on the young.

That is awesome. I'll bet you never forget it and may pay it forward one day.

Very nice!

I traded for one several years ago in similar condition. They're wonderful little guns, smooth and very accurate. It's one I'll never get rid of.

It is obvious to me that he found the right caretaker!

Enjoy and please let us know how it shoots.

He has 1 that is a .22 short. Also, I believe a pair with consecutive serial numbers. Bob

Lovely gift!

Do something nice for him. That rifle is worth $800 - $1000.

I doubt that it has anything to do with it, but I gave him some Eagle J frame target stocks a week ago. He said he had nobody to give it to when he passed. Said he knew it would be taken care of. Told him that I could not take it. My neighbor said TAKE IT!!! I did. Bob

My son received my Dad's 1919, 4th change that was given to me.
He also received my Father in law's revolver that was given to me.
He was happy to get them, because they were his Grandfathers'. Bob
