Cant decide between a red dot sight or a scope

Burgers?

Hell just go get a pizza, my wife and I would much prefer pizza.

I have a NcStar red dot scope on mine and it works just fine and I'm half blind. :D

Your going to find that you will be trying different scopes now and then and in time you'll find what works best for you and yours. it is very smart though to ask like you have been and get some others insight and opinions.

Good luck & enjoy!

speak of the devil. im about to eat pizza now

I have shot Bullseye for many years up to 50 yards.

A red dot is great. I reccommed a Millet or Ultra Dot. I agree, get a 1 min dot at these ranges.

Good Luck

+1 on the Millett red-dot.... while it may not have that tacticool flare, it's ultra-reliable and performs admirablely. With a 3/4" riser it will co-witness dead center.

If you are trying to get the smallest group possible on a piece of paper then a magnified optic is the way to go. If you are shooting at cans and stuff that bounce around then using a 1x red dot is easier to find the target and a heck of a lot of fun.

I'm in agreement with Phil. On our 15-22 we have a cheap (well $100) Holo by Osprey. I don't even know if a Holo like a real Eotech is considered a "Red Dot", but I love these optics (I am new to them, and am like a little kid with a new toy, and I'm pretty old = 50). After shooting a friends Eotech, we wanted something similar (but cheaper). Our cheap Holo has no parallax (think that's the right term, probably spelled incorrectly) at around 30 yards. After we are done target shooting, we always set cans out at about 30 or so yards, then take turns seeing who can keep one moving the farthest (not allowed to hit them in the air, only while rolling on ground). With the cheap Holo, you don't have to align your eye to the sight at that distance, and can shoot with both eyes open. It's amazingly fun.
So don't forget to consider the cheap Holo option. We got it locally but I think ours is this one:
Osprey Reflex Sight, Scopes, Osprey International at Sportsman's Guide
It has 4 different reticles, selectable to Red or Green (the boys love that). We really like it. It seems well made except there is an exposed circuit board on the bottom (if you look between the unit, and it rail mount) that gives me some concern about it's expected longevity. And it co-witness perfect with the stock Magpul Back Up Sights:).

I have a TRUGLO Red Dot 5MOA recticle,30mm lens. about $40.00. Works well.
The red dot lines up with the front sight post. No riser needed.
