I bought myself a police turn-in 6906 (cost me a Walther P-22 and $160) and tried to look up it's manufacture date in my Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, but I can't find the serial number.

It starts with VCH, could this be a special contract serial #, and if so, anybody have any idea about who's?

Thanks.

It's just a later serial number than the last SCSW edition, a call to S&W customer service should answer your question...

I have a 5906 that's a VCT prefix that is from February of 1995, so I'd guess a little before that...

It's the bottom one. There's a lot of holster wear on the front and the barrel shows some polish in the ejector port from the action being worked, but the slide and the internals show almost no wear. I'd be surprised if it had more than a few hundred rounds through it.

My "new to me" LEO trade-in 6906 starts with VCH also. I'm figure late 1990's production, which is good enough for me. Now to find some mags. Got some good ideas in another post.

I did a quick inspection and mine seemed pretty clean on the inside. The outside is pretty worn.

I picked min up as a truck/garage/loaner 9mm.

Finally got the chance to try out my 6906 and I've got to say... it'll one-shot pop cans at 20 yards all day long. I'd say that's good enough for me.

Great little guns I like mine a lot. You do your job and they will do there's. I see you have 4006 also . So you now have the addiction , resistance is fultile
