Cant get crane and cylinder back in M19

[Retired in 2001]

Removed the cylinder and crane on my Model 19-4 it slipped right off.Now trying to get it back on..&^%&^&^& it has to go inward another 3/8 of a inch to close.is there something else that has to be done what am I not doing to get it to close properly HELP

Set the cylinder aside for a minute, and then while holding the thumb latch back to the rear, cycle the action a couple times. I have one S&W that always gives me grief when trying to reinstall the crane assembly, and doing this always makes it go right in.

Well, since you got it together could I offer that maybe the difficulty was trying to put a Colt part in a S&W?
