Captain freed!

Sgt Preston here. Thank God for the Navy Seals. Outstanding job guys! My only question is "why didn't we simply kill the 4th pirate?" Now we have a prisoner. What will we do with him? He was guilty. We don't need a trial. Kill him & move on. This is the lesson that America needs to learn. Once the pirates realize we play for keeps, they will leave US ships alone. We need armed mercinary soldiers of fortune on all US ships in Somalie Seas. AND we need ALL sailors on board to be trained & to carry loaded side arms when they are in dangerous waters. Life is simple if only America politicians will wise up. That's the way I see it. Sgt Preston USMC LLA.

Listening to the press briefing on FoxNews... my gosh where do we get these reporters...

"Admiral, can you tell us what the Navy has learned from the attempted escape by the Captain?"

Do there reporters understand the security required with an operation like this? Don't they understand that the pirates watch the news also?

"Admiral why wasn't the Navy there FASTER?"

duhhh

"Sir, the pirate we captured just wrapped chains around himself, jumped off the ship and tried to swim ashore. We tried to stop him but he was just too fast."

This is excellent. With no details it is hard to determine how the results came about. I would be willing to bet that some real American Patriots grew tired of the "great ones" unwillingness to do anything and decided to take it upon themselves to end the nonsense.

Yea, that happens all the time.

The US Navy just makes up its own steaming orders and missions.
You don’t have to like Obama, but do you have to be a Moron?

Exactly.... like, now that there's a new administration, the concept of chain of command has been laid by the wayside.

These people may not like Obama, but at least they could respect our professional military.

Great news.

But for those wanting the fourth pirate summarily executed, perhaps he could provide intelligence as to numbers, whereabout, beaches/coves used by other pirates.

Also, story I read said Obama personally gave go-ahead for Navy to proceed. Gee, guys, even if most of us or all of us don't like him, let's not
blindly condemn him for everything. It's silly.

I'm not often happy to be wrong, but this time I'm elated!!

I had no doubt the Navy could get it done I was doubtful they would be allowed too. God bless the US NAVY and their SEALs!!! Obama gets high marks for this one!

I aggree, while I do have an extreme dislike for BHO I have no doubt our navy did not act without orders.

Fabulous news. All involved military personnel are to be commended. They, of course, will simply state they were doing their jobs.

I salute you!

Be safe.

It's not clear whether Capt. Phillips escaped on his own and was merely picked up out of the water or whether he was "rescued" from the lifeboat where he was held captive.
The Admiral giving the Pentagon briefing was a master of doublespeak and would not say whether Capt. Phillips escaped on his own or not, even though reporters asked him again and again.
The Admiral did make clear that Obama had no personal involvement in this operation beyond giving the Navy the blanket authority to do what was necessary, which is exactly what the Navy gets paid to do.
I'll reserve praise or condemnation of anyone until we know the facts.

Perhaps the reporter would have felt better if a boomer had surfaced under the lifeboat? Morons!

I actually read a post on a digest where the moron suggested that tactic, with the absurd premise the the SEALs could exit the moving sub, identify and then rescue the captain from the (likely overturned, if not shattered) lifeboat, all while neutralizing the pirates.

I do think the idea of the captured pirate swinging from the yards has a certain historical flair and practical merit.

To crofoot629: please look at the thread started by NCTexan about the different types of posters. Several seem to apply to you but the one that stands out is "The Tough Guy". Glad you feel safe punk.

Nevermind-I just heard that the one who wasn't killed was on the navy vessel negotiating an exchange when the takedown went down. Pretty sporting of out guys for not killing him to just for the hell of it.

I guess the negotiations took a quick turn right about the time the shooting stopped

One of the "talking heads" on Fox said Obama approved deadly force twice! They hinted that force was authorized if the hostage was in imminent danger. They then said the Seal sniper teams were "observing" and saw one of the pirates point an AK at the Captain's back. They believed he was in danger and they took a coordinated three shot "when three clear head shots were available". I doubt we will ever know the details and that is as it should be. Suffice to say we will not pay ransom and apparently have the "balls" to back it up.

God Bless the Seals and all who serve.
