Hey guys, I got bored last Friday and thought that I would start drawing a nice Smith and Wesson m29 beside one of my badges and also random junk. I would like to know how all of you think about it and could use some advice from any other artists that have been doing this for a long time.
Hope you all enjoy!

The real picture I took

I decided that I wouldn't mess with it anymore. Here is the final product.

So far, so good. I've worn a badge just like that when working security to make ends meet. I liked the lion image.

Is the gun and holster a Dirty Harry thing? Doesn't seem to fit the security image. Are you pretending t's a real police badge? I think someone on the Net sells repro SFPD badges like Harry's. Don't know if they're legal, esp. in California.

Yeah, I didn't want to get mixed up in the trouble of using actual badges(even mine) also I didn't want to fall into the category of being the true Dirty Harry(my own touch). And to answer your question about the holster,it actually isn't. It's a bianchi x2100, but the similarities are very close to the actually "dirty harry" holster(which they sell for a whopping $360) which only costed me about 70$.

You are doing great "inspector"! For me the trick to learn was the shading of round things. I bet there are some internet sites that have some basics that may give you some tricks. So for example in the crane area the mind wants to put a line there where in fact the reflection is the greatest and it is actually white, which in this case would mean put no markings there.

You did really good getting the perspective down accurately. Nothing wrong with getting some "tools" to assist in the circle department - to me those are impossible to freehand.

I really like what you did there and I'd like to take the time out myself someday to do the same. Really like the bullets and some really nice detailing I just picked up on the leather. For folks that have never tried this they should.

Oh and given the short time you have worked on it I think you have good skills - daughter won Best of Show at a State competition last month with a drawing and probably had 60+ hours into it with perfect eyesight.

Thank you, it is a pain to do it free hand but it is also a little bit challenging! I might bring out the compass to help with the barrel but I do like the(freehand) look to it. The crane area is also a pain(ejector rod as well) but congrats to your daughter on getting best in show!

Inspector - Nice sketch. I'm an artist and a lurker here as I enjoy shooting too. I decided to register to coment on your drawing and to be able to post in the future. One minor suggestion, erase the top of the cylinder to show the highlight, it will then match the barrel and add a little more deminsion to the overall composition. Nice job. Here is link to my website, as you'll see my stuff is more landscape and still life, but I might have to add a painting of my S&W 15-2 (dated to 1966) as a composition. Keep drawing! That would be splendid to see it! Thanks for the advice!
