Well looks like they put a car into space today:

Live feed of it floating about up there. And the rocket ship landed back on Earth safely.

What a world we live in!

They didn't have to do that but it was pretty cool.

That's going to freak out some unsuspecting extra terrestrial cruising around our galaxy.

When I first saw it on the news I thought "my God, how stupid" but actually if you think about it, what better way to drum up support and public interest than putting a car in space with a dummy in it and a live feed camera? :eek:

How far we have come in just 60 years! Remember in late 1957 when the 30-pound Vanguard blew up on the launching pad in our first attempt to launch a satellite? That was with the U.S. Navy doing the heavy lifting. And here we are today when a private American entrepreneur can design, build, and pilot a rocket that can lift a full size car into orbit and then return to Earth for a safe vertical landing.

Yep, and I imagine they'll be thinking " Let's come back in a few thousand years after they figure out that ain't gonna work!"
 
Wonder how long before someone steals the tires off the car. Martians gots to make a living too.

I doubt that it had any batteries in it.

It was the symbolism more than anything.

Especially if it starts on the first try. :D Now that's what I call a road trip. Now all they need up there is a south of the border, & a drive thru fast food. ;) It will be tough to beat that kind of advertising.
