Carried a full size 1911 for the first time in a long time today. WOW!

1911 and extra mag always because I have seen the elephant and do not want to only have a five shot, if he decides to show up again.

Most days I carry a Hi Power and two 21 rd mags, which weighs more than my alloy frame 1911 Commander and two 8 rd mags.

I have a good belt and holster, and I honestly don't even notice the weight. I don't really understand folks complaining about how much a gun weighs.

You must not have a bad back. Since mine went bad, it’s either my Colt (Lightweight) Commander or my Officer’s Model (both .45 ACP).

What do you think the legendary gun carriers/writers back in the day would say about the plastics, the DA/SA and all the new fangled stuff it it was available to them back in the day? Remember that back when the legend of the 1911 was made it was the only game in town. Same thing with the N frame 357's. They were the only thing going until the 50's and the L frames only came about in the 80's. Much as I love a blue steel fixed sight N frame 357-the 681 is a MUCH more practical choice. Even Skeeter commented about the needless bulk of the 27-I suspect that if he had been around a few more years he would have gone with the L frame.
Beautiful polished blue steel was the only way to protect metal from rusting back in the day and it wasn't that durable. The new materials and finishes today do the job so much better. I LOVE my A5 Browning but if you tear up while looking at it, it will start to rust. The Benelli finish on the other hand is pretty much bulletproof. Guess which one goes to the marsh more??
I LOVE my Colt 1911. Beautiful to look at, hold and shoot but I sure as hell am not gonna cary it every day when I have so many better options.

Not exactly the same thing, but for the past month or so I've been carrying my Govt Model around the house in a cheap Uncle Mike's IWB holster (I do use good belts). While I've only carried it for a few hours at a time, I have to say it does carry pretty easily. It'd probably be even better with a good holster. Even thinking about possibly getting another 1911 specifically for carrying, when funds and availability allow.

The DW ECO, for when you want your cake and eat it too. 25oz of lightweight 1911 bliss! I also have my custom RIA and DW CCOs with alloy frames at 28oz. For better comfort and I usually carry my full-size 1911s (all of my guns) in a shoulder rig and it provides better accessibility when driving.

I only carry one of my autos, .45acp Colt Officer's, Commander, DA 10mm or even one of my Walther PPKS in .380 on occasion, but I can't stand a striker fired gun, it feels like they didn't complete the trigger job or didn't care about it to me.

YES! I am lefty, My LES BAER 1911 sits at 8 o'clock in Milt SPARKS IWB while driving , while riding horse , while shopping and in church.

I’m old (64 yrs. of age) and remember friends of mine who were LRRP (Rangers) and Green Berets in Viet Nam who opted for the Browning Hi-Power over the 1911 in .45ACP because it carried more ammo in the magazines, and you could put more ammo down range faster than with the issued 1911. Add to it that you could use the same holsters for either and the choice was pretty easy to see. BTW, I used to hate to carry the 1911 - I was young, strong and skinny, but carrying the piece was no fun. A friend finally talked me into buying a good gun belt Bianchi Ranger pistol belt (leather) and holster Bianchi Adkins Avenger. What a difference! I carried the Colt until injuries to my wrist kept me from being able to competently shoot the pistol.

If I was going to carry cocked and locked I'd opt for a Browning High Power mkIII with Mec-gar 15 rd magazines over a 1911.

As an LEO, I carried a cocked and locked stainless Commander. Tricked it out with Irv Stone installed BarSto barrel and a 400 Carbon barrel

Just started trying shoulder holster and find the weight virtually disappears. And it concealed very well.

So I ordered a Ross Shoulder holster for my other later duty gun, the Sig 220.

I'm really digging the shoulder carry: and my Commander is going to get a set of ivory grips to make it perfect

Besides, it is super accurate and throws a nice chunk of lead .

I have had some spendy custom 1911’s over the years, but this Philippine-made .45 comes damn close to any of them in fit and tolerances. Swapped out the grips and sights and it’s good to go. Maybe I just got lucky and found a good one, but it is the proverbial tackdriver so I’ll take it .

It's winter. Light weight commander with 5 in barrel balanced by 2 spare mags offside in hybrid holster and suspenders. Warmer weather switch to officer size with one off side spare.

Errrrrrrm... Lightweight Commander with a 5 inch barrel? Surely the barrel length is a typo.

I've always preferred Commander length 1911s and carry my Ruger lightweight a good bit. Recently got a Springfield Armory lightweight Officers Model and I'm REALLY liking that. Carried it yesterday in a Yaqui slide with shirttail out and it was barely noticeable. My edc is still my model 60, though.
