Carry Case or Range Bag for my Smith's

I think the Midway Competition range bags are among the best values for carting gear to the range. The largest one even includes a separate internal bag to carry ammo and two removable soft sided gun cases. Yes, it does include magazine holders in one of the exterior compartments, but you don't have to use them for that. Easily will hold 4 revolvers and just about anything you can think of to take to the range.

I have the best answer. Join the NRA the send a free duffel bag. I use that to carry all my stuff when I go shooting. Works great!😉

Been a member of the NRA for a number of years. No duffel bag offered when I signed up.

I failed to mention that some of my Smith's have pristine finishes that need protected, so I'm thinking that the gun rug suggestions in a cheaper bag is probably the best solution. I did find this nicely built case with a price to match. They have cases to hold from 1 to 7 revolvers. I like the concept, but not sure of the prices for my budget.

I have been considering the Midwest Competition Range Bag. It has great ratings and I think it actually has 2 gun rugs included.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I wasn't sure if this would be the correct (or best) section for this topic, but I've been searching for the best case or bag for carrying my S&W's to the range or wherever. Seems most range bags are geared more towards semi-autos, but I've got all revolvers with barrels from 6" to 2" (L thru J frame), and I'm not seeing a perfect solution.

Am I just over-thinking this?

Any recommendations?

Not sure where you are a resident of but here in Michigan we have a strange law regarding your topic. The law here actually states the case MUST be a legitimate case specifically designed for a firearm. For years all I used was a canvas tool bag to hold my beat up 9mm pistol , ammo and ear muffs while driving to the range. I guess all that time I was in violation. I now use a cheap pistol case to avoid overly zealous cops with nothing better to do than nit pick.

I've not found a perfect solution to this problem, and even if I had, my perfect wouldn't be your perfect.

That said, I can testify that the Midway compact range bag is really quite sizeable, with 2 internal and 2 external "slots" that keep a gun separated from other stuff in the same pocket. Beware of the "full size" model, though, as it is SOOOOOO easy to fill it up beyond what you can comfortably (or even uncomfortably) carry - don't ask me how I know this.

I just decided I needed a separate bag for my growing family of 32s. Despite my favorable opinion of the Midway compact bag I've had for years, the latest reviews of the bag have lots of comments about plastic zipper pulls coming apart (mine are metal) and other remarks about flimsy construction, so I decided to try this [ame="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GQVR5UO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1"]Amazon.com : Explorer Tactical R5 Range Shooting, Patrol and Duty Bag, Tan, 17 x 8 x 9-Inch : Sports & Outdoors[/ame] from Amazon. Looks to be a bit smaller than the compact Midway bag but still reasonably spacious, and quite reasonably priced. The tan model also appears to have a non-black interior, something I'm willing to pay extra for after having spent way too much time over the years looking for small things at the bottom of black holes.

What Springier said. I've had other brands but come back to these. I actually have and use both sizes. Both have great features, plenty of isolated padded pockets and bulletproof instruction. I'd argue they are the best bang for the $ when they go on sale too.

btw, even LARGE revolvers fit nicely into the padded pockets.
