What do you think of using a S&W M&P 5" Pro as your ccw pistol? It really is no bigger than a 1911 so size is not a real factor with the right holster.

I think it depends on your body type and wardrobe . I carry a 9c and have a FS9 and a 9L Pro Core that I use in competition. My core meets the concealment requirements for IDPA but I think it would stick out the bottom of my vest if I actually did anything other than stand there with my arms outstretched. (the IDPA test for concealment) Of course you can conceal just about anything. I carried a Model 29 with an 8" barrel in a shoulder holster many years ago (hey, I was young and dumb :D).

On a hot summer day, it might be a little bigger than you want to be able to conceal comfortably?

I don't see a problem in the right holster. I have an Old faithful Holster for my full size M&P45 (4.5" barrel) and my FNX-9. I have no problem carrying either one. I tend to carry the FNX-9 more as it's a little smaller and a little more comfortable when driving, but generally have no problems carrying my M&P. I'm not a big dude 5'8" 195lbs. I'm a little thick in the belly but that's it.

I'm carrying, now days, a M&P FS in .45, actually is carry in a IWB holster belonging to my Sig 220, 6'0" and 175 lb.

I CCed my Pro CORE 5" 9mm for about 3 months and just got tired of the extra bulk, but it can be done. I used a Comp-Tac Minotaur IWB for mine and it worked great. I recently purchased a Shield 9MM to CC and I am much more comfortable. I live in FL and wear shorts and a tee almost year round, so I have to worry a little about the concealment, but was able to do so with the Comp-Tac IWB.

Keep in mind thickness makes a really big difference in carry comfort. A 1911 is much thinner then a full size M&P. Having said that, the right holster can make all the difference. My friend carries a Glock 19 inside the waste band with a Crossbread holster and he says that he forgets he has it on some times.

I would think that the weight would get to you.. Plus you would need to find the "sweet spot" for CC so it does not poke you.

The actual size difference is minimal - tenths/fractions of inches in most dimensions. However, compared to my 1911, the M&P sure FEELS bigger.

Even though I'm 6' 2" & 200 lbs. I'm in my late 60's and walk w/a cane. Given this all I can manage is a 442 or M38 in a pocket holster. More power to those who can manage a larger ccw, I would if I could.
