Often carry my LCP at home, it's so light I can just throw it in a clip holster on my shorts or windpants.

I posted about this on another forum, but I think it's worth saying here, too. I live in one of the lowest crime cities in the US (Allen, TX), and we recently had a rash of home invasions across town (as did several other cities). Front doors kicked in. Entry through an open garage door. They even had a woman in the group ring the doorbell in some cases, only to have the person who answered to be greeted most rudely. The families/people were held at gunpoint and threatened to tell where they kept their valuables.

Years ago in my hometown, we had two guys from my church robbed, put on their knees and executed - bullet to the back of the head. They lived in a nice apartment in a nice area.

If you think you are safe at your dinner table, you probably are - until you are not. You people do realize that criminals own vehicles and can drive from their "hood" to your "secure" neighborhood, right?


Here's what I said:

I've had a few friends tell me things like, "It would suck to live in fear like you do, always carrying a gun even in your home. That's no way to live." I always tell them that because I am armed, I live with a perfect peace of mind, and if they want to know what fear is like, it tastes like duct tape, and it looks like a gun held to your loved one's head.

Our property is one mile from the city limits of a 100K city, yet borders several 1000 acres of essentialy mountain wilderness area. As soon I step outside by door, my threat matrix includes the standard two-legged variety, plus legitimate black bear, mountain lion and ferel dog concerns. If I don't holster-up to a larger gun, my EDC has to be suitable for taking out the trash or running kitchen waste to the compost pile. Prepared, not paranoid!

I spent about 30 years in close proximity to about 3000 inmates who could pretty much ruin your day in an instant. That taught me to have a "sixth" sense that is still VERY active today, 6 years after retirement.

Carry when I'm out and about? For sure, carry in my own house while I'm home? Nope, but that doesn't mean I can't get to it and defend what I treasure before it's taken from me.

IMO, if you need a weapon on your person while you eat dinner, maybe you should think about moving.

Chuck. I had this fear when I moved in my home. Realized that is no way to live life and if the threats were real, I would be been better off moving to a better part of town. The threats were mostly imagined so I don't wake up paranoid in the night anymore with some weird sounds throughout the house. I just tell my dog to shut up and go back to bed. But you make a good point.

Living out in the woods has gotten me in the habit of wearing my gun once I get home from work until I go to bed. I'm constantly in and out of the woods taking my dog out, so it just makes sense. Also, recently acquiring some lobo OWB holsters has made carrying easy and comfortable. Before, with only my IWB's, carrying around the house was just an uncomfortable hassle.
