anyone willing to share your case oal for the m&p 10 308. Just got my new m&p 10 and was checking my oal and my hornady oal guage broke so I ordered a new one but wanted to know what everyone else was coming up with thanks:)

That would be "round" OAL, but no, don't have an answer.

Regardless of what your Hornady gauge comes up with, you're probably going to end up using your magazine to determine max length, unless you want to single feed. I like @ least 1/16" or so shorter than magazine dimension; it makes loading the mag a lot easier.

Well it sorta kinda depends on what bullet you are using.

A 308 Cartridge is not specific to the rifle. Use what the manual says for the bullet. Once you get familar with that if you want to play around with seating long just of the rifling, well that's a individual thing.

I load to what Sierra, Nosler or Hornady says.

thanks for the post Klaus I am used to loading for bolt guns so I use the oal guage to get me in the ball park used a lot of different methods but not mag length. Ill try that thanks

rule 3 im used to getting more precise on bullet distance off the lands guess I don't need to do that with ar am shooting sierra 165 gkings so I will use there specs thanks

If you are shooting targets for precision than the Match King is the one. I use that. Hunting than the GameKing. Both are fine bullets.

I use the same for my Rem 700 SPS Tactical (Jewel Trigger and NF optics) I only neck size those. For the RR AR 10 I use the same bullet but full size and slight crimp. For the Sierra and Nosler bullets I just use their COL and it works just fine. I get same hole accuracy. Not winning any money or trophies.;)

I don't know if if you have this but good info. In the article click on the Sierra load map PDF link. Tpwards the bottom of the

I always load my AR's to mag length, but I'm anal enough about knowing the distance off the lands to the ogive with all my loads that I still measure it. That allows me to consistently load identical cartridges from batch to batch.

I guess, I should've read my post a little better before hitting the submit button. Not that I have any experience with the M&P 10, but every other AR type .308 I've dealt with had a very generous amount of freebore. So my point was, if you seat to be 'x' thousandths off the lands, generally the cartridge won't fit in the magazine, thus the inner magazine dimension becomes the limiting factor in the OAL. It works the same way in any action fed by a box magazine.
