Anyone ever use a Casio G-Shock watch? I just bought the DW5600E-1V model and really like it:

They seem to have a loyal following. One of few watches certified for space flight by NASA, waterproof to 200 meters, and only cost me $40. I’m impressed and have been wearing it non stop the past couple days.

Anyone else have or had one?

Yeah, I've had one for the past 6 months. Decided to give them a go after having some bad luck with a couple of "Wenger" Swiss Army brand watches. Pretty happy so far.

They have been around for quite sometime now and so I can only come to the assumption that they are good watches and people like them.

Personally, I like traditional mechanical watches so I don't own one.

I've been using that model watch since the early to mid 90's. They are one of the few watches I've owned that hold up working on drilling rigs and being exposed to diesel, mineral oil and synthetic oil based muds. I just bought me a new one about 4-5 months ago and I'm keeping my old one as a spare, but need to get the battery changed in it.

What was the matter with the Wenger? I do think the Victorinox watches, like their knives, are probably better.

Wenger is no more. Bought out maybe 10 years ago by Vic. I don't think Vic. has agreed to service or warranty the Wenger brand. But an independent watch service may be able to get parts and a battery and seals that fit.

I purchased this model several months ago and think it's by far the best time piece I've ever owned. Paid just over a "C" note but this thing has so many functions (e.g. moon phases, tides, accurate time update from U.S. time standard in CO, etc). Does everything except making me coffee in the morning.

What 's the 6:30 SUN vs. the 10:58 bit? Time in two zones? The date?

My SIL is a scuba diver for more than 30 years, and with NYPD Scuba more than 20 years. Always used Casio.

My G Shock GW6900-1 has been tough as nails. I bought it because of the following features:

Solar battery charger
Atomic clock that works all over the world
Easily changes between international time zones
Waterproof

It has many other functions that have never been used. Will buy another

Yes, it fell apart. Piece of junk, but you get what you pay for, hope you have better luck.

Too lazy to take a photo, but I bought one like this last year:

Solar powered, syncs with atomic clock, adjusts to time zone and allegedly never needs batteries. I like the accuracy, as the Seiko it replaced was off a minute or so each year or two. :p:rolleyes:

I have a bunch of G Shocks. Prefer the solar, so I do not have to deal with the batteries. Great Watches!

I don't own one like yours but I have owned Casios before. They took a beating as a work watch every day and kept good time for many years. The Casio came with a lifetime guarantee and I kept the box and receipt for it. I believe it was about 7 years old when I dropped it on concrete and it quit working. I took the watch back in the original box with receipt and they replaced it with another watch. I even got a few bucks back because the watch I chose was a few bucks less cost than the Casio. Can't beat that deal. The store clerk said people seldom save the receipt let alone the box. They are made by Bulova I believe.

I had a Victorinox SAW for over 20 years, but it quit working last June. I was thinking about buying a Casio solar, but I liked the SAW so well I found another just like it (used, no band) on eBay for $30. It was much less scratched-up than my original and so far it seems to be working just fine. All I had to do was put a new expansion band on it.

Little known fact - Replacement quartz movements for many of the Swiss watches (including Victorinox) are fairly cheap, usually $15-20 on eBay, and there are many videos on YouTube which show exactly how to replace a movement. Only problem is that you need the tools to remove and reinstall the hands. I was going to do that on my Vic SAW, but it was cheaper to buy a used watch in working condition.
