Cast Bullets in M&P 45

Is there anyone out there using cast bullets in your M&P 45 ?

I use 230 round nose cast almost exclusively in my 1911. Not exactely the same i know, but they shoot just as good as jacketed.

All I shoot in my M&P45 is cast. I use Lyman 452374 (225 grain RN), Lyman 452460 (200 grain SWC), and Missouri Bullet's 200 grain RNFP. I don't have the loads in front of me, but I mainly use Titegroup. I am very happy with lead in my M&P.

I also shoot lead out of my M&P 45. 200 gr RNFP (from kead bullets) over 4 gr of Clays. Good load in a great gun.

200 grain swc, H&G 68 style over WW 231 powder. shoots very accurately, and the load I use in all my .45 acp pieces. Function has been fine.

200 gr. cast SWC over 5 grains,(more or less) of 231. Works fine with factory recoil spring.

Very accurate.

Problem with lead bullets is that over about 1000 FPS they tend to leave lead deposits in the barrel that can be a pain in the butt to get out.

Nice thing about .45 is that most loads don't exceed that limit and thus are not usually a problem. If you were shooting 147 grain 9mm at about 900 fps or so i wouldn't think it would be a problem but i don't know about 124 or 115 which will be well over 1000 fps.

Did it for years with .357 and 9mm. Not a big deal if its hard cast lead. If it really bugs a person do some research on cleaning lead out, theres various concoctions out there people came up with claimed to make it much easier. I usually used the Skeeter Skelton method of using an oversize bore brush and found it not difficult to clean. (example, use .45 brush in a 9mm.)

Apparently i stand corrected ? Do you care to enlighten us with the specifics or should we just go read every post and article on the forum looking for the info ?

i don't keep up with the latest and greatest. The only bullet in my experiance that has not leaded when loaded over about 1000fps is the Keith SWC design when cast to the proper hardness and correctly lubed.

I don't really have time to mess with all the wizbangs, i just stick with what has worked for me for the past 15 years. Your results may vary.

Today I shot my second batch of reloads in my M&P .45, just getting started. No problems with Missouri Bullet, 200 grn lead RNFP, 5.2 grns of WW231.

Don't ask about using the same cartridge in my 37 year old Colt 1911 Combat Commander. It just didn't feed the stuff!

I am having trouble with feeding lead bullets. I am using Missouri Bullet 200 gr RNFP. The reloads go into my guage and fit into the barrel of my M&P 45. They shoot well in my Kimber and S&W 625, both of which eats anything. I just got the M&P, it has 100 rounds of jacked through it. Then I tried some lead loads. NOT good. Any suggestions?

Lee Factory Crimp Die Moderate crimp.

Yields ~725 FPS and 3/8" groups at 15 yards from bags.

166 Power Factor and is sweet to shoot.

Gotta get to the range

That is what I have been working with. The length and the crimp. I have 150 or so 200 gr RNFP at 1.20 inches. Will see if it works when I go to the range next. I have also polished the ramp and the outside of the chamber with my Dremel and a buffing wheel only. (Nothing abrasive)
