I got out my late Mother's cast iron skillet, and looked it over. I knew it didn't have a brand name on it, but it does have a G8 stamped on the bottom. Does this give an idea to the brand of it? It's a 10.5" skillet, and other than that, all I know is it has made a whole lot of great fried chicken, fresh fried fish and fried potatoes.

I think that means 8inch Griswold. Don't ever put it in the dishwasher, and treasure it forever. Ed

Yep to the dishwasher comment!

Also, no soap or scotchbrite pads. I like using the nylon "Dobie" scrubbers with hot water. I've also found that good old fashioned Lard (rendered pig fat) is the absolute best thing to use when cooking in one.

I am well aware of the care of cast iron cookware. I have my own, that looks just like Mother's, but I haven't looked at the bottom. They are both 10.5 inch and have what I will call a needle eye handle. Then, I have my grandmother's, which is totally different, heavy, smooth, with a tab 180 degrees from the handle. It has a couple of rings around the bottom, definately a high quality item.
