Cool weather is here so it's time to start casting bullets again. Was digging thru a box of molds I haven't used in years and ran across a old cramer mold. It's a cramer #33, a spinoff of the himmelwright design. The #33 was designed for indoor/parlor loads.

I also have a modern design/spinoff of the wimmelwright bullet made by Mihec. It's a 140gr bb bullet designed for powder coating.

Both bullets can be used in the 38spl's/357's & 9mm's. This got me thinking about testing both bullets in short bbl'd firearms. Both bullets were designed for target shooting/clean holes in paper. But it would be interesting to heat them up with:
38spl p+ loads/2" bbl
hot 357 loads/2 1/2" bbl
hot 9mm loads/3.2" bbl

Thinking about setting up bundles of wetpack @ 25ft and chronographing them @ the same time. Lead an more specifically pc'd lead always has more velocity that their traditional cast/lubed counterparts and plated or jacketed bullets.

Might be disappointing or it could be a real eye opener. Either way it's always a good day at the range when testing along with enjoying 2 very creative bullet designs.

Those look interesting. First thing I noted was they look like they would punch clean holes on paper, and I see you mention that:) Do you think the Cramer would feed well in 9mm semi guns? The Mice 140 looks like a good one.
These must be pretty hard if you are going for the hot loads to try out? Aren't lighter bullets normally better in short barrels? That 140 powder coated would be a great bullet.
Enjoy the new rekindled bullets.

Nothing more than +/-9bhn range scrap that will be pc'd. I've ran that combo up to 1700fps accurately.
Accurately ='s 10-shot groups like these

Yes, the cramer will feed in the semi-auto's. I've always used these bullets for target/plinking. Just figured I'd heat them up and see what kind of velocity I can get out of them. I'm not a huge fan of light bullets in short bbl's. The mihec is light for the 38/357 & the 110gr cramer is light for everything.

The 2r & 3r rn on the bullets got me thinking about penetration.

I will be waiting for the little guy in the 38 snub and the 140gr out of the 9mm test.

Coating should make them work, with an easier clean up, as well.

My 38 likes the 125gr cowboy.......
the 110gr might be just the ticket for the 25 yard targets?

Have fun.

What diameter do they cast at? Seems the 9mm would use a different diameter bullet than the 38 spl.

.359"/.360"

That's a huge mistake most reloaders make when reloading 9mm with cast/coated bullets. The 9mm/38spl/357's all get the same .358" bullets.

9mm's flat out shoot with .358" bullets.

Very nice.......I have an old Ideal mould that casts a 121 gr. roundnose for the 38 spl.
