I'm not too proud, at my age, to wear both a belt and suspenders. I just received a pair of the Duluth Trading Co. side clip suspenders and plan to see how well they work with a belt to carry a Model 10 OWB.

I was going to suggest the same thing, being a "belts & braces" kinda guy. I use Perry Suspenders, which also clip onto the belt.
I would think that without a belt, a gun in a clip-on or paddle holster might flop around a bit on the relatively thin fabric of your britches, although the outwards pressure of your "expanded personal horizons" might offset that a bit .

Another recomendation for the Belt AND suspenders aproach.
To think out of the box , a "belly band" , worn at waist level ( as they should anyway). You will have the reholstering issues inherent to this mode , but a full size pistol can be carried in same position as would be with an IWB , and with great concealment.
Or while still outside the box , a fanny pack, if that wouldn't violate the no pants belt rules. Subject to the usual fanny pack issues , but you could wear one even if otherwise naked.

I wear a belt and suspenders. No problem. My suspenders hook onto the belt anyway. I tried the ones with alligator clips and I hated those blinking things. They were always pulling loose, always in the back...I think the ones I wear are made by Dickies. Anyway I got them at Wal-Mart I'm sure.

There is a gentleman at the Tulsa Arms Show that sells a set of suspenders (braces, "straps") that have an optional holster that replaces one of the lower pieces of the suspenders. I have that option for a J-Frame. As long as you are wearing something to cover the holster it works well.
I know bib overalls are considered " hick, or redneck ". But being somewhat portly myself, and disabled, and at the age where I don't care what people think, I've found I can conceal a full size S&W 915 in a back pocket as long as I have a coat or " Hoodie " over the 1/2 inch of it that shows. Otherwise a J frame in a pocket.

I'm in the belt plus suspenders (Perrys, under $10 at Wally World) crowd, and I carry a Glock G22 in a Galco KingTuck IWB holster...very, very comfortable.

i wouldn't say i'm portly. just big. lost weight recently, wear suspenders, clip on. just makes it easier to EDC. ^^^^^ like above, i don't dress for fashion of other people. usually a flannel shirt and a vest. even when it 20 deg. carheart is in the back seat.

I have found quite a few IWB holsters draw with the gun if I wear no belt. Including my King Tuck for my 637 J Frame.

Occasionally, I use this shoulder holster to carry my 9mm Shield. Very adjustable and snaps can be set for a thumb break. Mine is stable without having to anchor either side, which is why I use it when wearing braces.

I have worn Perry suspenders (the "dress" style which is a bit narrower but still plenty strong and durable) for several years. I carry a TTGunleather Slim XC IWB holster all the time. It has two belt loops that secure it to my double thickness belt and covers a good bit of space centered at about 3:30 or 4:00 on my right side. There is plenty of room for the right front belt clip and the rear one clips astraddle of my center rear belt loop. This combination has worked very well and very comfortably for me for a long time. The suspenders help hold every thing up in place and the good belt does not sag at all so I don't have to wear the belt so tightly around my waist. Like I said, it's very comfortable and I don't have to be hitching up my britches all the time.

I do envy the guys that actually have a waist and can keep their pants up.
I have a hard time with any weight in my pocket at all. I don't wear suspenders but will cinch my belt up tight and put an LCP in my front pocket. If it's cool I carry a 642 in my jacket pocket.

If you're willing to carry inside the waistband, have a look at two Alessi Holster offerings: Talon, and Watch Six.
Both these holster use a clip I haven't found elsewhere that functions with or without a belt, clipping directly (and snugly) onto the pant's edge -- rather than over the belt -- to hold position; I can personally attest to their effectiveness at remaining in place while drawing.
Caveat: Alessi makes great products, but aren't particularly fast or communicative; I do think the clip they use will solve your problem though.
Ritchie Leather, a company born of some former Alessi staff, does have similar holsters that appear to use the same clip, but I can't vouch as I've never used them.
