CCW grips 686

I hope to have my new 3" 686 deluxe in a day or so. Anyway whether it works out or not I would like to have the option to use it as a ccw from time to time. I am going to try iwb to start and see what happens. I am kinda tolerant of larger ccw iwb but we will see. Anyway not sure the grips on the deluxe will serve well for my needs.

Any suggestions for some small but functional grips for this revolver? Something that won't snag on clothing. I was looking at the Altamont boot grips but wonder how you guys that have them like them. Any other suggestions are welcome. I'll look into all suggestions.

CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT CHOICE OF A CCW WEAPON.....

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A SET OF PC MAGNAS WITH A TYLER-T GRIP ADAPTER. SO EQUIPPED, THE REVOLVER IS EASILY CONCEALED. FABRIC DOES NOT CLING TO IT, SHOWING THE OUTLINE OF A GUN. THEY DO NOT INCREASE THE BULK, OR THE OVERALL DIMENSIONS OF THE WEAPON EITHER......

IMHO---THE TYLER-T ADDS A CLASSIC LOOK, AND INCREASED CONTROL OF THE WEAPON. BELOW IS MY 2 1/2" M686+ FOR ILLUSTRATION.......

Ditto^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ been using his grips since about 1984/85.

I think those are his Extended Grips which enclose the bottom of the grip frame.

I have Ahrends "Retro Combat" on mine and they work great. I also have them on 10 other revolvers. I got lucky and the finger groves fit me perfectly.

Below are pictures of the Spegel Boot Grips on the 315NG and a pair of Ahrends Concealed Carry Boot Grips on the Model 64.

Both are fairly compact and nice to shoot with.

Well picked up the 686 this evening. What a beautiful revolver. Didn't take the time to try carrying it so that is still a question. This is the deluxe model and the grips are surprisingly comfortable. Not sure how they will conceal but they feel pretty good. Haven't shot her yet of course but if the grips will conceal and they feel good shooting I will probably keep them. So far that is. To my surprise the trigger is pretty easy to stage. Cylinder is tight as a vault. She is pretty hefty. We will see how she carries.

Like ars1876 in post #5, I have Ahrends Retro Combats (square butt) on my 66-2 and find them comfortable for concealed carry in a pancake holster that keeps the butt in tight to my ribs. Where the corner on target grips dug into my ribs, the Retro Combats are rounded enough to be comfortable. The combats will give you a three-finger hold. Ahrends also make them in a round butt version and also makes boot grips. But the suggestion of magnas plus a Tyler-T is possibly your best bet: comfortable both in the holster and in your hand.

I've used a few grips on mine for CCW.

Pachmayr Compac professionals are about as small as it gets, and the rubber compound isn't "sticky" so it doesn't grab your shirt.

I've also used these, although they are currently on my Model 66:

The regular Pachmayr Compacs also work well. The major difference between these and the Compac Professionals is that the back strap is covered on the regular Compacs and the regular Compac grip is a little thicker.

The round butt combat style VZ grips in smooth G10 work well for me.

I carry a 3" 686+ as my CCW. I have a Wild Bill's Concealment IWB tuckable holster that works perfect for the revolver. Being a lefty, I took like two months to get it made, but as my second holster from them, I knew it was worth the wait.

As to grips, I got a set of Altamont Black/Silver boot grips for it that work great.

Mine has Altamont's but I've ground off the finger groove bumps and shortened them about 5/16".

Using the Pachmayr Compac professionals are they comfortable to shoot? Or at least reasonably comfortable.

I carried this one daily for quite awhile before putting it into a rotation with my PC Shield 45 and 2.0 9c. I just prefer a Tyler T and Magna Grip combo for conceal carry. In fact, every revolver I own other than my N frames and M69 wear this combo. Makes the correct grip for me very repeatable. I tried too many grips before finding the right one for me. Good luck in your search.
