I purchased a 4566 from CDNN last week. It appears to be in very good plus condition. It has very slight wear on some of the edges and internally it looks new. The night sights still glow and the Hogue grips are also in great shape.
My question concerns its age. The s/n is TDM 72xx. I called S&W customer service and they gave me a build date of 4/2006. Does that sound right? I thought they quit making them around 2000.
Thanks for any help on the date.

I have a 4566TSW that was made in Feb. 2006, and has a Serial number beginning BDK####. I know the TSW series were still shown on S&W's website for law-enforcement until their recent website update. As for the non-TSW, I would say it was a special order as well, as for who placed the special order it is hard to tell.

Even if it was built in 2000, they are built like tanks! I have been considering one of them too and wondered about the condition. Any pics?

I'll try to take some pictures. I haven't tried posting pictures before so I don't know how it will turn out.
Anything in particular you are looking for?

These cop guns were carried alot but shot very little. They show wear from being carried, mostly on the right side from banging into car doors, etc. But they can be refinished to look new if you prefer, and will last forever. I currently have a 4583 which has a little wear but shoots like a target gun. I love it and will never part with it (at least, not in this life).

Get some Mother's Mag and Aluminum cleaner and a soft cloth...works wonders to shine up the 4566. I had bought a 4566 a few years ago that sounds like yours..shot very little but dull and worn...cleaned up beautiful.

How much did you pay? I just may pick one up myself!

You won't be disappointed...owners refer to them as a tank..and they're not kidding...the ONLY draw back..its an all stainless steel gun..there is some weight to it if you're going to carry it all day..but with a good belt/holster, should be good to go..

If someone would please clarify what the 4566 is.

I thought it was a 4506 just with a shorter barrel.

So what is this TSW option or not ?

Does the 4506 and 4566 share the same magazines ?

All 4566s had a 4.25" instead of 5", TSW or not.

The TSWs came much later after the model was first introduced, there were many TSW versions (5906, 4566, etc).

Yes :D

TSWs also can have a light rail, I also found this snippet from another forum (a 2003 post so YMMV)...

"The Tactical line contains a barrel with a fixed barrel bushing and it is housed in a frame and slide that feature larger, reconfigured rails for greater stability and durability. The full length rails on the frames and slides feature tighter tolerances for increased accuracy. Accuracy is also enhanced by a tighter lock up and longer unlocking delay. The delayed-unlock firing system produces less "felt" recoil and enables a shooter to return to the target quicker. Consequentially, TSW pistol will shoot more accurately and with less kick than it's non-TSW sibling."

On thing I noticed is that the 4566's sold by CDNN have bobbed
hammers and I could not stand for that. not in a pistol that
had regular SA/DA capabilities.
Wonder what the cost of replacing the hammer with normal
version would be?

That's a darn good price for a all-stainless steel, reliable 45 Auto. Made and serviced in the USA, to boot!

389 sounds good. paid 429 on GB, sight unseen, lots of scuff marks on slide, etc. evenso, very pleased with gun. most marks will clean up or refinish.

JRC,
You need to post a photo of your new pistol, I know there are a lot of members besides myself that would love to see these bobbed hammer pistols CDNN is selling.

Thanks in advance!

Here ya go. A crippled 4566.
DAO only, cannot be cocked and no hammer to grab

Developed for the boys they didnt think they could
train away their revolver habits or trust with
modern semi auto capability.

Naw, I wouldnt have one at $389 plus $18 shipping
and FFL transfer fee.

Or for those who love DAO and like a manual safety to go with it :D
