Reminder.... YOU ARE CHARGED FOR INCOMING CALLS, NO MATTER HOW THE CALLER OBTAINS YOUR NUMBER, WHETHER OR NOT YOU WANT TO BE CALLED.

Theoretically unless you "opt in" for calls published in a directory or elsewhere, you aren't supposed to get automated telemarketing calls. Interestingly, person to person telemarketing calls are NOT addressed by the law. To be double damn sure, there is a "do not call" number you can call.

You may call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for an indefinite period. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked.

It's bad enough to get those unwanted calls on our land lines, but having to pay for nuisance calls is beyond the pale. Do yourself a favor and do your best to head them off at the pass! The do not call list is no guarantee, but it might help.

This "Do not Call" list is working just like everything else government. It isn't. I have had my home telephone on that list since its inception and I am getting more and more calls everyday. This is typical of everything government touches, it is a disaster. I have even written to my two senators about this and they don't even bother to reply.

If a number doesn't come up with a name from my contact list showing, it doesn't get answered... problem solved! What 's bad is I had my number changed due to an overwhelming number of bill collectors calling (a result of a long nasty divorce and the alky wife still putting my name down when she takes an ambulance ride to the ER), so I figured that would take care of that...NO... I just started getting a bill collector who's automated system is calling me, FOR SOMEONE ELSE!!!! And their stupid system doesn't have an option to press for "If you don't have any idea who this person is, and want us to stop calling you, press #"... anyways, I put all my numbers on the do not call list, whether they are cell or landline.

my cel phone is never on unless i am calling someone.

The 'Do Not Call' list works too. Shortly afetr de-regulation , I kept getting automated tele-market calls several times a day from an electricity supply company even though my cell number is on the list. So I reported them on-line. The PA AG's office called me about a week or so later , asked a few more details and the calls stopped.

I also put my cell on the DNC list. Didn't cost a dime, so why not, even if you don't have to.

As far as a time limit goes, I understood you have to re-register. I think it's only good for 5 years at a time.

One of the reasons my wife doesn't like me to answer te phone at home. If it is "one of those calls" I usually keep them on the phone for as long as it takes for them to hang up in disgust. You ought to hear my "My name is Peggy-can I help you" speil :D Or better yet watch my wife's face cringe when she hears me asking " Is it true you let the cows sleep in the living room over there?" ;)

I've been fortunate here in Wisconsin. The only bill collectors I get,
are MY legitimate creditors. As I am on-call 24/7, the failure of our no-call policy would have me getting no rest at all.
Some day, I'd like to hear the rest of Caj's method of getting rid of the call-all-the-time bozo's.
Thanks John for the phone #.. I turned it over to a fellow driver, who thanks you too.

I have recently received two of these unwanted calls that went to message. One was an advertisement for a new TV show. The other was for some product for someone was hawking.

Thanks for the no call number.

THIS!

True, it stopped most of the calls but there is one debt consolidation place that refuses to stop calling even though I am on the registry and tell them to stop calling me, every time!

If there is something I can do other then "file a complaint" here https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx Someone please let me know! I have filed almost 2 dozen complaints against this one company and absolutely nothing has changed!

After you file a complaint you get the following statement..."Do not call complaints will be entered into a secure online database available to civil and criminal law enforcement agencies. While the FTC does not resolve individual consumer problems, your complaint will help the agency investigate the company, and could lead to law enforcement action."

After you waste your time filling out the form and read this...it's like what did I just waste my time for!?!? And in my case it has definitely been a waste of time.

My phone used to ring off the hook with those annoyance calls.Do not call is a joke, political calls are allowed, and all these other exempt places.

I simply reported them to the fcc anyways as well as the BBB.Now, I get maybe 1 or 2 a week, better than the 15,I used to get.all because I donated once 10 years ago to a charity.never again.

I have my cellphone listed under a different name so they dont bother me.it works.

I've found that a long blast with an air horn on the second call is very effective. They can call me the third time with the other ear if they want, but I never get a fourth call. :)

There is an on-line no call website that you can register all your numbers if you have multiple cell or house phone numbers, and the registration is now forever, thanks to a change in the law. Google "no call list".

I wrote the Do not call software several years ago for the Louisiana Public Service Commission. They later rewrote it as a web application.

Not long after it went into use a large company was fined over $250,000 for not using the list. When the Federal DNC started, I changed the software to import the numbers collected by them.

There are some exceptions. Charities, politicians, and companies that you ever did business are exempted.

The registration is good for 5 years and you must re-register to stay on the list after 5 years.

I have filed complaints that were handled by the PSC since they make money on the fines.

It is still difficult to identify some callers so if I do not see a caller id that I recognize, I do not answer the phone.

Sometimes, you can tell them that you are on the list or ask that your name be removed from their call list and that may work.

Another thing that I do is say, "Hold on while I get something to write with" and then I set the phone down and wait until they hang up.

You can also register on line. It seems to be working for us because our call volume has dropped to almost nothing.

When someone does call, I ask them where they got my number.

Some non profit agencies are exempt to the do not call list.
