Cerakote M&P 9c

9c is still one of my favorite "do all" guns. I like the FDE color too. I currently have a near twin of yours in a 45c as well.

Sorry to report I'm a little disappointed in the durability of the Cerakote job that was done on my 9c. Attached are a few pictures. The first is the holster I've been using. The others show where the coating has already begun to rub off. I say 'already' because the wear is the result of very limited use. I'd say no more than 30 - 50 draws from the holster. The wear occurred during a 2 hour defensive pistol course I recently took. Other than this course, I had not even carried the 9c since it was coated.

I understand your disappointment. I always lament a little with the first sign of wear or scratch that any of my forearms acquire. But then I take a reality check and think of the wear and scratches as character marks. All my guns have"character"......some quite a bit more than others.:D Character of a firearm means it has been used as it was made to be used; The owner "knows" that gun and is probably quite proficient with it. Yours now has its unique character and I bet you shoot it just as well, if not better than you did when you got it back from being cerakoted. Enjoy the gun's accuracy and reliability and don't put too much worry into the way it looks.

Looks great Joe... like 22 said... it's gonna happen if you use it. I look at my Shield I carry, even the original coating shows wear from the holster. I too cerakoted an E series 1911sc, but, I'm not planning on carrying it, just because I don't want to ding it up. I have others I carry instead..

Completely agree. I've finally reached the point where I look upon a well worn gun the same way I do my well worn favorite screwdriver. I just thought it was interesting that the highly regarded durable Cerakote does not appear to be that durable, if you actually intend to use the gun.

Bummer about the coating wearing off already! I think I will hold off on doing mine as I carry as well. Was your holster Kydex or Leather? Just curious Thanks

Holster is leather, Wright Leather Works. It is in the first picture.

Surprised at the wear from your our Wright Leather Holster wonder what a Kydex holster's wear would have looked like .. probably even more as they rub along a longer surface.. Was thinking on having mine (40c) done .. but think I just changed my mind if wear is that easily shown with so few draws from the holster ..

Don't know who did yours, but I have had zero problems with the two I have had done (both revolvers) and they have received much harder use than yours.
f.t.

A real Cerakote done right shouldn't rub off so easily and should cost about $200 or a little more for a complete handgun.
Shop I use is a full type 7 that does NFA stuff as well as contract dipping for other manufacturers and Cerakote and he is meticulous.
