Looking for opinions please or knowledge of Cerakote. A buddy of mine does Cerakoting and said he would do my Shield slide for $50 since he has to due some other guns. Just little scared of how it will wear over time. I dont know much except what he told be and what I have read. What is your experiences?

The finish on the Shield is excellent compared to my Beretta Nano which showed wear on the hood of the barrel after a few rounds.

I have fired 500 rounds through my Shield and pocket carried 40 hours per week for the last 4 months and there is zero wear marks on the edges.

In my opinion don't mess with a great finish.

IMHO while cerakote may be a good way to cover some wear imperfections in a old gun I would't be doing it to a new Shield with a melonite finish which is about as wear resistant finish you will find. I really don't like the way any coating tends to fill in the stamping placed on firearms to some extent such as the brand ect. The price sound good but I would save my money for ammo.

Lets strip off the new factory finish that was applied with expensive equipment and replace it with "I did it my garage b.s." Not.

I'm going to go the opposite and say get the Cerakoting...it's the most durable finish being offered. I'm not a fan of black firearms, so I say go for it. I just had my Sako TRG 42 Cerakoted in Smith Brown and I love it.

Like others have said, the Melonite finish is very durable and enhances lubricity. That being said, it is black and if you're not a fan then Cerakote all the way. Might I suggest Burnt Bronze finish? PhillyEDC on YouTube just had his done this color and it looks freakin sweet! Of course his M&P had considerable holster wear (due to his early holster designs which were too tight in some spots). I'm not going to touch my M&P since my finish hasn't even worn on the high spots. But when it does I'm doing the bronze finish.

Cerakote is very durable. I have that finish on one of my EDC pistols and it shows no signs of wear.

I also had my shield finished in KG gunkote. It has been holding up fine as well.

Some people like to customize and make things their own. I treat each of my guns like a build and like to tailor them to my tastes and needs.

If you want to change colors, go for it!
