I had my customized Model 64 "Cerakoted" but it was part of the overall package so I can't recall specifically what it cost. Do any of y'all have a general idea of the cost to Cerakote a handgun?

Gracias......

I imagine it would depend on the finisher, but I did a quick Google check of a few random finishers and prices seemed to be in the $200-300 range. Can't say anything about how that reflects on quality.

Small projects were $35-50 if you disassembled everything your self and stuck to a limited color palate. A small project would be a Glock Slide or an AR upper, this also had a slow time frame of 2 or 3 weeks so other things were in that batch. That company and gun store went out of business about 1.5 years ago. Around Columbus I hear of places it can get done but nobody is advertising as it has really fallen out of favor, since the USMC 1911's had their coating messed up badly in Iraq and Afgan.

Cerakote over park is as about a durable painted finish as you will find out there. Much more durable than just a blast and cerakote.

Although I have an ak and an sks that take ak mags that are both kg gunkote over manganese park and they've been way more durable than my cerakote finishes.

I have read about Cerakote, but have yet to see exactly what it is, other than it is described as being a spray-on ceramic coating which is heat cured. Which tells me nearly nothing. I have applied Teflon coatings to many guns, and can't imagine that it much inferior (if not superior) to Cerakote, especially if applied to steel components over a Parkerized subcoat. That finish is nearly indestructible. And it is simple to do it yourself.

The German MG-42 and later MG-3 and many HK weapons have a baked on enamel over phosphate finish. That as fool proof as a bely and suspenders!

I've had Teflon over park done and it wasn't worth a damn. Cerakote or kg over park is the way to go for wear and durability and lubricity.

Have a RIA 1911-A1 that was cerakoted in 2011. For a number of years I fired at least 100 rds. a week or more through that pistol. It is my one and only (currently) 1911. The pistol has been customized by a very capable gunsmith who did the coating. This was done as a gift so I don't know anything about price. I do know that after nine years of use, the finish is flawless. I guess if I were to drag it behind a truck down a dirt road, it'd show a bit of wear. But with just normal use, carry in a leather holster, etc., the finish has performed perfectly. There would have been some normal wear on a blue or parkerized finish after this much use. Sincerely. bruce.
