I would like some input about a gun refinishing product by the name of "Cerakote." I am considering having a Colt Agent done, because the aluminum anodizing on the frame is faded and well worn. Colt won't do any refinishing on an Agent. They referred me to Baron Technology. Have any of you had this product used on a gun? Skip48

Hamilton Bowen uses it on the rear sights of fixed sighted stainless revos, which I think a very clever application. Check out the Freedom Arms 44 special here: + Bowen Classic Arms + Workshop He says Cerakote is exceedingly tough and wear resistant, and he oughta know. How it works on aluminum, tho, I have no idea.

For what you're doing I'd be happy with CeraKote.
I refinish a lot of weapons, and I've found Cerakote to be just a bit better than Gunkote.
Both are bake on finishes that spray on wet, dry quick and are thin enough a coating so as to be useable on even tight tolerance parts.
HOWEVER...
Cerakote is just a bit better in scratch resistance and wearability.
It (like most finishes) is great choice where original finish is not an issue as you need to remove the old finish by blasting with 80 grit media (or buffing), then reparkerizing (or not) prior to painting (or bluing).

It's thin enough, and it will help minimize the wear ring on cylinders.
I've used it on semi auto bolts and slides/frames of pistols with no issues.
The main thing is it's all in the prep work, the item being coated must be absolutely clean of grease, oil, and other contaminants like rust or fouling.
Otherwise it will not stick and flake off after baking.
