Going tomorrow morning to look at a 681-2.

I need another revolver like a hole in the head but a friend needs money!

Inputs requested .....thanks

I love fixed sight guns -- they generally shoot right on. The 681 is a solid gun that can handle anything. I think you might have a great opportunity.

Just picked up a 681 no dash yesterday. Great guns and even better at a good price. Most guys just have to have adjustable sights so fewer buyers for a 681. That should work in your favor. Good luck.

There is a 681-2 at my LGS 4" with Pachmeyers for $550 just as a price point. No box gun only. Of course the 681 at $550 isn't sold either...at least it wasn't last week. But he had just got it in. Good luck.

SINCE IT'S "TO HELP A FRIEND"

It would be the right thing to do. Charity begins at home they say. I'm sure you could put up with a solid, good looking, sweet shooter, seeing as it's for a good cause and all.

Well, I bought it....looks clean and no obvious abuse. Now to get some dry weather so I can take it out back to see how it works!! Serial Number BAN47xx

Wait for dry weather!!?? It's stainless, take it out in the rain! :D Seriously, the 681 is a grail gun in this house. Somebody who shows me one for sale in condition equal to yours is going to go home with a nice piece of change.

P.S. I've never even SEEN a 681 "in the flesh," let alone handle one, never mind the Loch Ness monster or the Abominable Snowman.

I have one I have had for several years. Paid 250.00 for it used with 2 boxes of ammo fired through it. Purchased it from an detective Sargent at a local Police Dept. Said he qualified with it 2 times. They went to semi-autos and his dept let him purchase it. He got in a tight and needed some extra money so I relieved him of the responsibility of it. One of the best revolvers I own, if not the best. Enjoy!

The firearm is stainless but, at my age, I may rust!!

If you are in the neighborhood stop by and I'll let you handle mine in the flesh!!!

Thanks for the invite to Iowa. Don't know if I'll be able to find my way around an area without a subway or a casino handy! (...said the transplanted New Yorker in Vegas.)

We have casino's in Iowa. :)

Don't believe there is a subway near by though................

You're right, I just checked a video poker locator website. The best houses for VP in Iowa seem to be Prairie Meadows and Ameristar Council Bluffs. With me, if the pay tables are good, I tend to forget/ignore anything else.

Appreciate your friendly reply!

Guys,

I'm also looking into a 681-2 for $550 at a pawn shop, it looks good, it feels a little stiff when ejecting the chamber, so hopefully it is because it not abused?

Is that a reasonable price, and can I upgrade/replace the grips and maybe mount a sight and improve the front sight with fiber ?

There is also a 66-1 but for $700

What do you guys think? Thanks

There seems to be far fewer buyers because of the fixed sights. Pawn shops like to see cash. Most of the people that come in only have a sad story, no money.

JLL if you want better sights than the 681 offers, you should get the 66-1. Or if you prefer the L frame, hold out for a 686.
Aside from that, $550 for the 681 is decent price.

I am no expert on prices of 681's so I can't comment!! Just to note that all pawn shops start off HIGH.......IF you are interested start off LOW and have CASH...

Replacement grips are easy to come by: any K or L frame grips will fit the 681 (it is an L frame).

Replacing sights would be way too expensive....if it were me I would look for a nice 686 which already has adjustable sights.
