I recently bought (and then promptly sold) a vintage model 36 that had been refinished in some sort of spray-on coating. It had a lot of chips in the finish, with the original blue showing through. Not too good a job-- I think it would have held up much better had it been beadblasted first. For some reason they didn't do the yoke or the cylinder. In my experience, the cylinder is the most likely part of the gun to get nicked up. I've blasted & cold (matt) blued the cylinders on four j-frames now.I don't mind honest holster wear but don't care for nicks.
