The new 642 I bought this month came with a good set of boot grips, but I had to see if something different was better.:)
So I tried a grip "combination" of a set of old school wood and a Tyler-T.

It does provide a "high-on-the-backstrap" hold that helps manage recoil and the current grip set-up seems to be very easy to conceal. The factory rubber stocks did provide a good grip on the revolver but I'm gonna' shoot it with these for awhile.

I know it's all about how a gun shoots... but I like the looks of wood grips! :D

That's a nice looking gun. Let us know what you think about the magna grip and Tyler combo. I find they point the gun a bit high for me.

Curious, would that grip look o.k. on a black 442?? Also, where did you get those grips?

642

I just put a set of CT grips on my 642, Check out the Misc. parts for sale, I picked up a set of original wood grips for $25.00 shipped. If I can come up with the Tyler T adaptor I will try it on for size. I put the wood grips on alone and the recoil was very stout.

They both look great. I may have to dress my 442 like yours. I like the old school look.

At the risk of tooting my own horn, once you have the Magna style grips you can get a BK Grip Adapter for the J frame thru BK Grips | 2-Clip Grip Adapters for Revolvers. The 2-clip design locks them more solidly to the grip frame than the Tylers with their single clip. Shipping is usually the next day after order is paid (PayPal accepted), although I am dealing with out of town relatives and won't begin shipping again until Monday, 11/28.

I have lots of different grips for my 442, and while the larger rubber Pachmayrs are more comfortable to shoot a hundred rounds with, I usually end up shooting, and always end up carrying, with the Magna grips and a BK grip adapter. They make a big improvement in control but add no extra bulk that you have to conceal.

BK grips

I haven't used the BK grip adapters for a jframe yet, but have several sets on my square Ks. They are indeed a snug fit that doesn't have the same "shift" that original one clip Tylers have. I have, and use, tylers, packmayr grip adapters and the BKs. I like them all, but the BK doesn't shift and the polymer construction actually seems to provide more "grip" than the smooth polished aluminum Tylers.

I am looking for a set for my 642 now I will go to the gunshow at the sports center where the grip guys usually is set up.

I have the BK's on one of my J's and one of my K's. They are a better product than the original Tylers, lots cheaper and they ship in a few days. What's not to like?
