Okay, Steelslavers original thread

http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-hand-ejectors-1896-1961/651150-triple-lock-cylinder-question.html

got no traction so I thought I would ask here.

Is it possible to fit a different cylinder to a Triple Lock and if so which would be the easier to fit? Specially, I have a 455 that has been poorly reamed to 45 long Colt and would like to either replace it with a proper 455 or fit a new cylinder and ream it to the proper cartridge.

Thank you for your thoughts.

In these days of modern CNC machining, I wonder how hard it would be to just turn out new blank cylinders. Or rather the question is how many cylinders might people want since the cost isn't making the part but rather doing all the programming and fixturing to make the part in an efficient manner
My equipment is just old enough that I could make just one but nobody would want to pay for it, including me. :-)

Still, there IS some demand for blank(ish) cylinders for sure based on the number of people wanting .32 K-frames, .45colt/ACP conversions for their N frames...

Ya good CNC machine one programmed and set up could kick out a lot of cylinders. Make them all a bit on the long side.

You can make 32 cylinders from 22 cylinders and 45 cylinders from 44 mag cylinders though. I would like to cet a N frame cylinder with only pilot holes for chambers to make a 30 caliber based on the 30-30 case, a short 30 Herret if you will. The only thing I can think of for a K frame black is the 357 length 22 cylinders that are needed for the model 53s to make things like the super jet, 22 mag or 22 lr cylinders

I think it would be hard to set up and mass produce them cheaper than you can find them. Midway has a lot of them for under $150.

About all you can not find is a small bore L or N frame cylinders as they never made any except the ultra rare N frame 30 carbine you will never ever find one of those, or as mentioned the long small bore K frames in the 357 length.
