I was thinking of getting a different stock. Something like the Troy Battle CQB as I want some storage.

I live in NY so collapsable stocks are a no-no but as long as I pin it so that its fixed its ok.

Im just wondering if I have to get a new buffer tube and spring and all that?

Or does it depend on what stock I choose, as to what needs to be changed

My understanding is that you do not need to replace the buffer tuber or spring, but make sure you buy a stock that matches your buffer tube whether it be milspec or commercial. I want to say the M&P15's come with the milspec. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. My M&P15T has a milspec buffer tube and I replaced the stock with a Magpul ACS-L without changing the buffer tube or spring and have had no issues. Hope this helps!

Correct, S&W uses a milspec sized receiver extension. You don't need to change buffer or spring.

This post brought to you by me and my Droid X, guess which one is smarter!

Just make sure the stock is "mil-spec", and it will fit your tube. You don't have to change any other parts.
