Has anyone actually broken their polymer charging handle? Or is replacing it with a metal one just a matter of personal satisfaction? I like the looks of the Tacticool model, but does it really offer any functional improvement?

I went with the Plinker Tactical because I really like the ambi latch

I upgraded mine to the ndz one. I replaced mine just to make myself feel better but will the plastic one ever wear out or break in a lifetime...doubt it. it's more for looks. keep in mind that about 75% of the 15-22 is plastic. :D

I have never seen a report of the charging handle breaking in normal use. That said, many do replace them. The two best are the ones from NDZ and TactiCool22.

The Plinker Tactical is junk, but the ambi latch is excellent. Expensive way to get the latch, though.

I put a NDZ upgraded charging handle w/ambi latch.
Bought their over-sized magazine release button and their SBR, too.
Ever thang in black. No laser engraving of 'Zombie Killer' or skulls and crossbones.

So far mine is still the stock plastic one. I really hardly even use the charging handle. I mostly just drop the BCG by pressing on the bolt catch. I probably will upgrade just because I have upgraded most everything else already so why not. :D

The handle is for retracting the bolt; it has nothing to do with releasing the bolt. How do you retract the bolt if you hardly ever use the handle? :)

Actual functional improvement? Probably not a whole lot, but that doesn't stop most of us from replacing the handle. Mine, as well as my two grandsons' rifles, all have the NDZ. if you want color, the TactiCool22 is the way to go.

I use mine to release the bolt on a full magazine, or no magazine. I only use the bolt catch to drop the bolt on an empty magazine, which I rarely do. I have the PT charging handle, and the quality of the whole thing is very good. Seems my experience with them is different than yours.

I said hardly use. I rack it when I first begin to use it and then most of the time the magazine keep the bolt back.
