Ive recently found my dog eared copy of Leonard Scotts novel Charlie Mike, about army rangers in viet nam. I was surprised to find that there was a sequel titled the last run. Both books are great in my opinion, has anyone else read these and if so, what do you all think.

I loved them, I got a little teary on the Last Run. I look for Scott's books every time I go to a book store.

Charlie Mike

Still use that term to this day. Also use Charlie Foxtrot quite a bit to describe situations! Some of the younger generation thinks the old acronyms we used quite naturally in our day are a hoot! Particularly SNAFU'ed or Fubarbed!
Semper Fi! Had to tell a youngster the other day you had to earn the right to use that term and the tuition was high!

I too have read and enjoyed those two books by Leonard Scott. A few other of his Vietnam books I particularly liked were "The Expendables" and "The Hill". If you enjoy WWII novels "Men Of Iron" is also a good read. A good non-fiction book of his is "The Battle Of Hill 875: Dak To Vietnam 1967". I think he is an excellent author, and in a genre I enjoy.

I read all of his books that he had written up until 1990 when I moved down here. Loved them all and when the economy comes back and I have disposible income again I wouldn't mind looking at any I've missed. I like his books.

I recently finished reading a real classic - "Hell in a Very Small Place: The Siege of Dien Bien Phu", by Bernard Fall. Its been on my "list of books to read before I die" for a long time. It's a great historical book, great for taking with you on visits to the doctor's office, and parts of the book were so good that they brought tears to my eyes - one part in particular about a young French officer who was laying wounded and alone on open ground. The enemy began using him as bait, and his men were getting shot trying to come to his rescue (he was a particularly well regarded and popular officer). When the officer saw this he promptly killed himself with a pistol shot to his head to save his men. If I hadn't donated the book to the local library I would have offered it to the Forum members here.

Best regards,

Dave
